Call me crazy, but I always found Michael and Tom's relationship to be one of the best aspects of the first two Godfather movies. I really think Tom Hagen's presence in part 3 could've saved the movies from mediocracy. A central aspect of the original Coppolla Godfather Part 3 script was the falling out and split of Michael and Tom. It never happened due to Paramount's refusal to pay Duvall what they were paying Pacino. Because of that Tom was written out. My question, do you think keeping that plot line in would've helped the quality of the movie? If so, how much?

Yeah he should have been in it. I never knew the reason he wasn't.

He did a great job, but I doubt this storyline would save the whole movie :(

Having him around would've been excellent, but I don't know how much he could've saved the movie. It would've been great to have him instead of George Hamilton.

If duvall had been involved than G3 might have rivaled the first. The original story was had nothing to do witht the vatican. The original treatment had connie discover that michael killed fredo and her plotting revenge. She was grooming vincent(who was supposed to be played by john travolata) to kill michael and take his place. She was also supposed to cause friction between michael and tom. The sub plot would have been about the goverment trying to contract the corleone family to kill fidel castro.

Absolutely, I think it would have helped. If Hagen was there, I could see him having an important effect on the story. Tom often reprimanding Vincent due to his behavior; hell even Micheal was pissed at times. Also Michael and Tom having disagreements about the future of Vincent in the family and some deatails about the vatican deal that would have caused the falling out between the two.

Damn, I really hated it when Hagen wasn't in G3. :cmad:
