Since they have already introduced Lois as a regular, Perry White as a guest, and now Jimmy as an upcoming guest, and since Lex has always been on the show...

What if they slowly made the transition from young Clark Kent to adult Clark Kent?
What if they eventually, not all at once, made the show about Clark working at the Daily Planet with Lois and Jimmy and saving the day as Superman (costume and all)?

They would probably have to rename the show, but other than that...
Would you watch the show?
Do you think it would work?

i think the people on Smallville are getting tired of this show and when Smallville finishes not Metropolis, just the end of Smallville....

I dont thinkt hey would do that epsecacially with Superman Returns and its sequel coming out....

Yeah, im sure he is getting tired of getting razor bumps on his head. I freakin love smallville though. making it a mainstream superman thing would just be to "Louis and Clark"ish.

they couold always start a comic book series entitled "Metropolis" based on the universe of Smallville to satisfy the fans that want that to happen...

I was just wondering if the transition would work, if they used alot of special effects and continued the story style of Smallville...it would still probably seem too much like Lois and Clark.

I love that idea, especially if it was drawn well and not kicked off with rushed looking drawings. Maybe get big names to help out.
I actually think that would be a wise move for DC to make.

yeah that would be a great idea it wo uld also help the smallville fans who have never read a comic get into the whole comic book scene...

that would be a great idea bcoz as much as many of us would love to see Smallville continue 4ever, it's not going to happen. so having a comic book continue the story for us would be great. i'd buy it

Smallville works because it's new & fresh, something that the movie isn't.

"Planning" doesn't mean "confirmed" or "greenlit". There's plenty of time left anyway, 3 years, things change.

IMO, it couldn't be done and still keep up the quality of the special effects.

We know flying as the producers of Smallville like to do it is expensive. Having to throw that in multiple times per episode? No way. You'd end up getting that crappy blur effect that Lois and Clark used and likely a serious quality downgrade in all of the other special-effects heavy powers (super-speed, heat vision, x-ray vision).

Not to mention the fact that the super-suit probably wouldn't look that great. When you've got hundreds of thousands to spend on the suit alone, you can make it look great, but when you're on a television budget, all you can really do is whip up something a la Lois and Clark, and I've never thought the spandex suit tranferred well from page to screen. It just looks cheap and tacky.

IMO, we don't really need a Superman show because that's not what Smallville is about.

Not to mention the fact that these people are typecast enough already. ;) Let them live their lives, people!

Actually this is what DeKnight is saying now..

2) No, the flying restriction for Clark stands at the moment. But Zod's a different story...

Not a budget problem anymore apparently, and Zod is flying in the premiere.

Lois & Clark was done in the 90's, we're in 2006 now. The new show "Heroes" has those 2 brothers flying, i've seen the pilot and they showed 1 of them fly at the end, wasn't anything special though and only for few seconds.

But yes I imagine it would be a little too expensive having someone fly in every episode all the time.

Lt. Figgnuts why do you keep using L&C as an example for the suit and for the flying? Just because it was like that on that show doesn't mean it'll be the same now. There are other ways to do it you know, lol.

People reeeeallly want, hope and pray that this "Metropolis" series is gonna come after Smallville and it just.....aint......gonna.......happen.....!

What? They aint no more to it....

Trust me with productio starting in 2007 there will be conflicts between the tv superman and movie superman......

Bruce Wayne wasnt made because they wanted to make batman year one.....

I don't want a Metropolis series, a SV movie made for TV would be better.

But never say never, you....just...don't....know!

I really don't count on anything happening with this show beyond it's series finale, when that does happen.

So in other words a 2 hour episode? that's cool, but I would want it to be the people from Smallville, the whole current cast and link to Smallville.

What I mean is...well, it's just hard to do full-out superhero costumes on television.

That's one of the reasons they tweak the costumes for the big-budget productions; spandex just doesn't look good IRL. Say what you will about the alterations made to the SR costume, but the material it was made out of looked good, and SV just wouldn't be able to afford that. I think whatever they would end up with probably just wouldn't be as good as we could imagine, is all - and Lois and Clark just happens to be a prime example of that.

It could still very well be a budget issue, and they're just whipping out flight because it's a special occasion (a la Crusade).

Zod is only going to be showing up in the premiere, right? I bet he'll fly around a whole bunch, and then by episode 6x02 we won't see anymore of it.

And obviously you can't have Clark flying around, because then people would expect it all the time...

Maybe the budget isn't the major issue anymore, but I bet it still has a hand in it.

Well you don't know that, I like the material used in the SR suit.

So do I. I didn't mind the alterations, either. I bet it's pretty expensive, though. I dunno if they could make a suit out of that.

Who knows? Maybe a regular cloth suit would look fantastic...but I'd have to see it to make any real judgement. I'm just speculating as it is.

That's the thing, I hate it when people make judgments before seeing the final product. We can't know until we see it for ourselves.

Well, I wouldn't say I'm making judgements. If G&M did decide to "evolve" Smallville into a Superman show, I would be open to the idea and I would wait until I saw the final product before I said something along the lines of "Man, that sucks, I hate it."

However, that doesn't stop me from making observations and speculation. That's a big part of why we're here after all - to speculate and say why we do or don't think something will work without judgements (at least, that's how it should be).

Another reason I dont think there is gonna be a Superman series is that Welling is not gonna wanna do the same role for more than 7 years when I'm sure he wants to get in movies and we all know that be associated with just one roled (especially Superman) doesnt do well for your other options especially when he probably wants to have a film career and WB already might be looking at developing the Superman name more in the feature film department.

if i could make a sticky this is what it would say:

1- Bruce Wayne will not appear on Smallville.
2- When Smallvile ends, there will be no series called Metropolis
3- Don't make a new thread until you at least read the threads on the first page.

think how many headaches that would alleviate.

Half the people wouldnt show up to this board on the hype

Maybe it should be down
