If your favorite character was the opposite sex, would you:

  • Still follow the character...

  • Loosely follow the character from time to time...

  • Show no interest in the character whatsoever...

  • Follow a similar character with the same sex as myself...

Well as for Jean... all I can say is, it wouldn't matter to me cause I mean, I've seen famke play a transexual on Nip tuck... so... I would say I'd have little problems with Jean being a man. :o

Well... didn't we see a cover image of him and Mystique making out? I'm pretty sure that to a guy like Iceman, a relationship with Mystique would call for some re-assessment, not necessarily that he's gay.

Yeah Profezzor X did post a pic of that in the old thread of Storm and Iceman. I'll try to go find it.

I think what fans are getting at is that she's a shape shifter. And the fact that she can change her appearance from female to male freely. That, and people are tying in his past relationship with Cloud, from as you know had the same ability to switch from male to female, but in a different context. He was unaware of it, until "it" started having psychological and identity problems, and changed unexpectedly. Once Cloud started changing into a guy more often, Iceman called it quits. And although he was in love with the woman part of Cloud, he couldn't stand being around the guy side. He eventually called it off, and they just remained friends.

And that's the arguement that suspicious fans are raising. Plus, there was a joke he made about being Beast's boyfriend, and kissing him on the lips. Since then, fans have ran with those suspicions and assumed him to be gay... In spite of every relationship he's had since the beginning were with women.

I wouldn't have been drawn to Cyclops were he a woman because the charm of his character comes from being the leader but being so unconfident about it. Were a woman in that situation, it would almost seem sexist.

I think I would like Wolverine as a woman, though, but not a butch one. He'd be tough, instinctual but still devoid of emotion which is rare for a female character.

Well, I'm personally tired of the whole "Let's shock the fans by declaring such and such character gay! Whoo!"

It's bad enough that gay characters like Northstar get written with little to no personality outside of being gay, do they really have to do this stuff with classic characters?

I'm guessing perhaps many of the writers don't know how to write a homosexual character without him/her being flaming or one-dimensional.

I'm loving Ultimate Colossus though... he's a bit camp sometimes, but they're writing him pretty well, imo.

That's essentially how writers shut characters out if they don't like them. Because they know the character won't be as popular with young male readers. Northstar is a classic example. Other than that brief time in X-Men a year or so ago, when was the last time he's done anything?

Although I'm not a Gambit fan, I would have to agree with you and say that a female version of the character would be quite appealing. I would even go as far as saying she would probably be the new "Emma Frost"... Sexy, seductive, and charasmatic.

I'd agree, with the exception that Emma is for whatever reason considered a *****, whereas Remy is more-or-less a pretty nice, cool guy, lol.

The best Gambit fan art of all time was Gambit as a woman.

You're kidding. Where? I'd be very interested in seeing it.

I'm lookin' for it, but it's so far eluding me. It's been posted on this site before, I know it.

Its in the old "interesting way for iceman and storm to fight" thread.

I think half the posts in that thread are from my arguements alone.

But if Iceman were a woman, I'd be a little hesitant to follow her, because I don't see a female verion of him doing the same things he's done in the past... Too long of a list to get into.

Here's a misty, female version of him. Actually, it's Freon from the "Heroes" episode of Batman Beyond. Great episode... Too bad it's a total rip and spoof of the Fantastic Four. Basically, she was an icy mist, that could freeze anything. No knows the extent of her powers, but she was probably the most powerful of the three. In her mist form, she intangible, and could dissipate (sepatare her molecules) if needed.

The only reason why I say I wouldn't like her is because I don't think she'd have as much creativity with her powers as the male version of Iceman.

I don't really care what sex they are that much. Some characters could change drasticly though, I sappose. My favorite character is Gambit. He would have some changes, but none drastic enouph for me to not love the character. My second favorite character is Rogue. This could be intoresting. Would the writers push her not being able to touch people as much if she was a guy?

A guy version of Rogue might be a bad thing. And I think he would turn out to be a villain. Here's why:

A woman has more control over her sexual drive more than a man does. Rogue has survived for a very long period of time being abstinent (without sex). Given the male nature, men are constantly thinking about sex once they reach a certain age. And if this male Rogue was unable to touch a woman because of his powers, I doubt he'd be as restrained as the female Rogue, leading to psychological problems and erratic behavior. Essentially raping women whenever the opportunity presents itself. I hate to say it, but if you really think about the realities of a man in that kind of untouchable situation, that's probably going to happen.

Here's something I was thinking. If Wolverine was a female, clearly, 5'3" wouldn't be as uncommonly short as it is for a guy. So would she have to be four foot something to work properly?

The gender of the character does not matter to me.These days anything is accepted really...

If Blink was a male - I would have never become interested in him.

Same goes for Marrow, Shadowcat, and Cecilia.

So, my four favorite female characters I wouldn't have liked if they were male. I MIGHT have liked Shadowcat a bit, but most likely not the others.

Iceman and Gambit I couldn't really see as being women. Angel I could. And if Nightcrawler was a woman, I don't think I'd care too much for her - because I don't care too much for Nocturne.

X-Men Millenial Visions 2000 had a "reality" where the X-Men's sexs were reversed. There was a great pic with girl Wolverine, girl Nightcrawler, girl Angel, man Storm and man Rogue.

I would still follow the stories if the character was exactly the same. I don't like Ororo because she is a girl, I like her because of what she is and how she acts. Goddess or God, Ororo will always be number 1 in my book :p

Northstar has a personality. He's an arrogant, obnoxious bastard. There should be more like people like him.
