^ Well, one of the early issues of Exiles (which I just picked up in trade) features an alternate reality with a female character named Frog, who seems to be, basically, their reality's Toad. So it's been done...

I don't think I would be as big a fan of Storm as I am. Plus, it would be like a Thor character kinda. I gotta admit, I identify better with female characters than males.
