Sequels What is Fox's gameplan?

Assuming for a second that there will be a new trilogy of the main X-Men films:

I would say go big after Singer departs and do something different. For the first one finally bring the Shi'Ar in and make it cosmic with the X-Men going to space. Which would segue nicely into the one after that being X-Men: Phoenix or something, which does the Dark Phoenix Saga in space with all that implies, making it radically different from what came before. They can even use some Interstellar styled plot devices to explain how the X-Men come back to earth and its now the 2010s instead of the 1980s.

As for the rest of the series? I kind of like letting filmmakers go where they want. We have Old Man Logan down the pipe and Deadpool 2. Let Reynolds and Miller take a crack at X-Force after that if they want. These could be fun times.

I actually like that idea.

Have the next movie be Shi'ar / Phoenix. The filmmakers can take inspiration from the Bendis run ("The Trial of Jean Grey"). Maybe the Shi'ar is aware of what Jean Grey will eventually become and wish to stop it before it happens...it could be an interesting soft reboot of the Phoenix mythology within this filmverse.

Then, have the film end or provide a post credits tease with the X-Men returning to Earth, only to have it be present day.

While the original X-Men were in space and skipped 40 years on Earth, Magneto started Genosha, Sentinels were reinstated (Bastion, Operation Zero Tolerance, etc.), Weapon X/Plus has thrived (as seen in Deadpool). We can finally have a comic-accurate depiction of the X-Men canon.

how about just Apocalypse and Psylocke go see the stars and come back well-preserved to find much older Jean Grey, Cyke, Wolverine, Storm, Rogue, etc. ???

We kinda need a mature hero movie here, not teen hero flicks. The're X-Men, not X-Kids !

The X-Men were kids when Stan lee first created the "X-Men"

What about the already older versions of them? They gonna be erased?

It might aswell just be accepted they won't jump to present, no one involved would probably want to do that

the idea of sending apocalypse versions to the future is just stupid.

it's far more likely they keep main x-men films in past with spin-offs in present/near future with possibly exception of new mutants so they can have mcavoy's xavier running the school and they can retire original cast with old man logan film.

I guess we should give 'em a shot. However, I'm also down for a good ol' Marvel reboot any day. I'm really liking the way they handled Anvengers 2, GotG and, more recently, Jessica Jones.

Why? The original cast of heroes are all over 40 now and some are pushing 50 (plus Berry was always a lousy Storm). There is reason they recast the heroes in this soft-reboot format. Also, since they'll be supporting in Apocalypse (McAvoy, Fassbender, and Lawrence will still very much be the stars), it seems like a waste if they're not being set up in their own movie.

The kids were teenagers when they were first created, and plus the actors will all be in their early or mid 20s by the time X-Men 7 gets around to shooting...

I liked Jessica Jones and loved Daredevil, but Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige have nothing to do with the Netflix shows.

As for their films, I too like Guardians of the Galaxy. But I will take First Class and Days of Future Past any day over Avengers 2, Iron Man 3, Thor 2, or Ant-Man. And that makes up the majority of Marvel Phase 2

In other words, diversity is a good thing.

To each his own, I guess. Fox isn't behind in either case. Deadpool was beyond cool.

But I am still on the (sinking) boat of the original cast. Just one more movie with them, is that out of the question? I wish Fox would confirm this already.

Wolverine 3 is there for you. Only some of them should make an appearance though. After Apocalypse, Turner/Sheridan/Shipp need to be the only versions of their characters on film. Can't be detracting from what they are trying to build.

I am fan of original cast and after old man logan with jackman leaving inless the new mutants is set in present day with stewart running the school i am doudtful any of them are used again.People need to let paquin as rogue in gambit go.if she is ever used again it will be in old man logan.

for me it's not even about assuming younger cast is so much better it's about living in reality and everything is pointing to old man logan being end of original cast.

The deadpool writers have pretty much said there are restrictions because of the way these movies are being made so while they could use certain members of the OC again I don't think it will be as simple as a director using whoever they want whenever they want

I like this young cast and I do want to see more of them. But I also like the mature version of X-Men. Despite the fact the X-Men were teenagers when Lee created them, that's not how they're known. Just google X-Men. You'll see them depicted as mature 98% of the time at least.

I think one alternative is to continue to use the X-Men movies as sort of prequels to tell the origins of characters like Scott, Jean, Ororo and Kurt. But then end that prequel story after a couple movies and continue with the X-Men in the present days with other spin-offs like X-Force, New Mutants, Deadpool, etc...

After a couple more movies the young guys will be mature versions. But catching up to present day would require another recast.

prediction gambit gets october 2017 date and deadpool 2 gets january 2018 date.

if fox still itends to release x-men related film for july 2018 then they will have to find director quick for it while bryan singer directs 20,000 leagues under the sea for fox.

There are already 2 X movies for that year.

only film with firm release date after apocalypse is old man logan.gambit most
likely gets october 2017 with deadpool 2 likely for january 2018.beyond that nnothing is set.Josh Boone has another film and then the stand before new mutants inless something changes.and too many are jumping the gun on x-force.it doesn't have director and only hint it's even being devolped is deadpool writers apparently involved with it's script.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what goes in that July 2018 slot. If they do keep that spot, and assuming Gambit is Oct 2017 & Deadpool 2 is Jan 2018, then that leaves 3 options IMO. New Mutants, X-Force, or X-Men sequel. If Boone's schedule doesn't open up then New Mutants is going to have a hard time making it here, as others have pointed out. If its X-Force, the main players of Deadpool 2 would be filming almost back to back. Only six months separation between the two? You would think they'd want to stretch that out more. Then there's X-Men. Almost certainly without Singer in the directors chair, considering the time frames here. I really have no clue. Its a toss up until we get more info.

I can't imagine they'd put X-Force as the July 2018 X-film - that seems like a prime spot for another main X-Men follow-up after Apocalypse, even if it means Singer isn't the director. I would think it's fairly obvious Gambit is the October 2017 release and Deadpool 2 is the January 2018 slot but I could be wrong of course.

If deadpool 2 comes out january 2018 then X-Force probably wont happen until 2020 at least
