His father, a grade A *****ebag, sold him as a slave to an Indian tribe when he was about ten years old in exchange for safe passage across the Indian territory. For the next several years, Jonah was forced to do hard labor for the tribe. However, over time, as his prowess as a hunter and a fighter improved, he earned the respect of much of the tribe. After he saved the cheif from a cougar, he became a full fledged member of the tribe. He fell in love with a young woman named White Faun. onah's rival and the cheif's son, Noh-Tante, eventually takes Jonah on a raid of a rival tribe, and leaves Jonah behind enemy lines to die. Jonah barely survives, but does not return to the tribe as by now they all believe him to be dead. In any event, he eventually loses track of them. Later, he joins up with the Confederate army during the Civil War. He's in fact the man responsible for Stonewall Jackson's death. After the war, he meets up with his old tribe, and Noh-Tante's treachery becomes known. The two decide to settle their rivalry in a duel, choosing tomohawks as their weapons. Noh-Tante sabatoges Jonah's tomahwak before the fight, causing it to break. In an act of desperation, he pulls a knife on Noh-Tante and kills him. Because he broke the rules of the fight, the cheif has Jonah tied up and presses a heated tomohawk against his face, giving him "The Mark of the Demon," his trademark scar. He is then banished from the tribe.
Shortly there after, Jonah becomes a bounty hunter.
