I'm sorry if I dont want to debate...I just begun Christmas Break and had many many many debates in my Philosophy courses and they way you want to debate isn't in proper guidelines that's why I won't have the debate with you. Chat is alright but I wont have the debate. Their must be judge to watch over the debate has a professional degree....You could call it a judge.

Dude I have been to Church before, in fact I went to Ontario's publicly funded Catholic schools until university, so don't treat me like I'm some dope with understanding of religion. I was asking the question to get your answer and your reaction to the question, not the church's answer.

Yopu made the point about gay marriage and now you don't want have a debate on it. Too late, don't start something if you have no intention of finishing it.

I saw the title of the thread and almost didn't come in, expecting another stupid christian bashing thread. I decided to go ahead anyhow and read the article. Surprisingly enough, I liked it. I agree with everything that it said completely, and it's pretty much how I've always thought (accept for when I was a "new christian"... I was very judgemental back then). It's weird when you see that. Celldog is the perfect example. He really honestly followed the Republican party as though it were a religion. It's quite scary, really.

I guess its the same here in Ireland, in the North. If you're Catholic you vote either Sinn Fein or SDLP. If you're Protestant, DUP or one of the other unionist parties. But I think the reasons for this in N. Ireland are more understandable.

In the US, its more of a case of the Christrian right just hijacking political discussion - vote Republican or you are not a real Christian.

Yes, that is indeed the case. I lived in Lynchburg VA years ago and sometimes listened to one of it's most famous residents, Jerry Falwell, on the radio. It didn't take me long to tune him out since many of his sermons could have been entitled "Bill Clinton Sucks." There are ALOT of conservatives who act similarly. No exegesis is needed just bashing of the liberals.
Conversely, I've been in pacifist churches that have accused anyone who votes Republican of being a warmonger. Forget about the other issues, forget about evaluating candidates on their own merits. Conservative = barbarian in their view.
These kinds of views really make me sick as a Christian. it seems that there are too many of the flock that are willing to throw love & understanding out the window when it comes time to cast the ballot.

Sorry I'm not going to have this discussion b/c gay marriage is immoral and I stand against it. That is my stand point...Please do not argue about it. Keep your thoughts to yourself. Don't want to debate it. I have a Philosophy class totally gear toward debating gay marriage, abortion, war theory, utilitarianism. I dont need your opinion....I hear it everyday and I know the guidelines to how to debate and this is not the why. I'm not trying to be rude, but I'm not having this conversation. This is about "What happened to Christianity?" Not gay sexual orientation.

I have the distict feeling that this is what happened to Christianity. Far too many people too scared to seek out the answers for themselves and instead running and hiding behind the skirts of the church.

i find it funny that you were so quick to give YOUR opinion on the issue but when someone disagrees you "don't need (their) opinion" and say "keep your thoughts to yourself"

I'm sorry, but you are engaged in debate when you disagree with somoene and have any kind of conflictive discussion with them about that subject. What you are talking about is debate protocol in a scholastic or formal setting and you are not going to find that on the vast majority of message boards on the internet. What are you going to try enact next? Robert's Rules to regulate all conversation on the boards? I'm highly familiar with formal debate protocol. How about I be the judge, then? Do I need to start with pointing out that you are already outside of protocol yourself? Seriously, lighten up. If you don't want to discuss something, fine, don't. But don't try to hide behind debate protocol because you won't find it here and basically it will prohibit you from debating or disagreeing with anyone on these boards ever because you will not be following your own preferred protocol when you do. Savvy?

I believe you brought it up and in the process directly insulted Kaz, who is a lesbian married to another woman. She has every right to bring it up with you and, to be honest, she was pretty damn civil about it when she did when she was more than justified to tear you up one side and down the other for what you said as you basically insulted everything she stands for as a human being. If you are going to raise points here, be prepared for people to disagree with them and question you about them...perhaps even debate them. You can't tell people to keep it to themselves. Doesn't work that way. That sort of attitude will ensure you get eaten alive and turned into the village idiot around here.

Just trying to help you learn the culture of the board, so take it or leave it.
