The Dark Knight Rises What would you have eliminated or changed?

I've missed you, Guard :funny:.

A significantly larger role for Roland Dagget, because Mendlesohn

(I'm still yet to see DKR but still I'm sure his role isn't large enough)

The philanthropy angle with Bruce would've been cool. I wouldn't have had Alfred ditch Bruce like that, and I think Gordon should've seen more action. I wanted to see how Bruce got back to Gotham after climbing the pit, and I wanted to know where Alfred was. And I probably would've slowed the third act down. The first half felt really slow and it jumped around at times, but it really sped up as the movie went on.

As I said before, my least favorite part about this movie was Batman and Catwoman kissing with one minute before a nuclear bomb went off. It was just so absurd and uncalled for.

With Bruce retiring the cape and cowl, it makes no sense to me that he would just shut himself up in his house for eight years and not do anything. He needs to help people, and if he can't do it as Batman, he'd sure as hell do it as Bruce Wayne.

That's not to say he'd be all fine and dandy, mind you. He still needs Batman, and would be a shell of his former self without it. But come on. This was a golden opportunity to actually see Bruce Wayne do something generous and start stripping away the thoughtless playboy persona. Instead, we get Hermit Bruce Wayne just so Nolan can work a Howard Hughes reference in there.

Alfred quitting wasn't handled well, at least the set up for it, but its long overdue. Alfred should have been questioning Bruce's mission from day one in BATMAN BEGINS.

But the fact that he hung up the boots is why he became a recluse. I think, without Batman, he just felt meaningless. Especially since he couldn't move on without Rachel. He truly wasn't ready to move on so he spent 8 years in this suspended state as a Howard Hughes-like figure.

[BLACKOUT]In the end, he can finally hang up the cape and cowl and actually move so there is a bit of symmetry there. He is able to do what we couldn't do for the prior 8 years... Live a healthy life as Bruce Wayne.[/BLACKOUT]

I liked the Hughes stuff. I was looking forward to it but even that was rushed. His transition to normal again happened in like 3 mins.

But yes, I was disappointed that the philantrophic side of Bruce was not tackled again. So much for Tate's character description of helping Bruce continue his father's philantrophic work.

Alfred disappearing was the worst thing IMO. I mean, after BB/TDK and Bruce and the whole 'You haven't/You still haven't given up on me' bit. That's exactly what Alfred does in 'Rises'.

I was like this in the theater -- WTF

I would've like more focus on Bruce's time in prison.

Agreed. There was so much potential in those scenes IMO.

That entire portion of the movie was amazing. It should have definitely received more focus/attention.

Do we even know if Alfred was in Gotham? I considered the possibility that after he left he flew off to London, and if this was the case (or if he just left Gotham) then there was no way he was going to get back into Gotham with the bridges blown and the army controlling the one way in or out.

I think this explains Alfred's absence. But also, he didn't leave because he gave up on Bruce, he left to try and make Bruce realize he was making a mistake.

Alfred knew that Bruce had made up his mind to sacrifice himself to save Gotham and I think that he did not want to see that happen, a decision that is feels sorry about in the scenes at Graves.

BTW, who did they bury as Bruce Wayne there ?

Yeah I think Alfred was outside Gotham and its not like he can get back in anyway with it being on lockdown.

I definitely didn't expect it to be that short/quick.

I agree. Which makes me wonder how Bruce did it, lol.

Perhaps Alfred went to Italy straight away.

It doesn't matter. He still walked. It can't be justified with woulda, coulda, shoulda's. He was a damn near cameo. Him leaving sucked. Period. His loyalty is what made their relationship and their chemistry in those scenes so unique.

While I liked Blake, I don't think he was needed. I think JGL wanted to be in the film and Nolan really liked him and decided to sandwich him in. It didn't detract too much, but it was still valuable screen time we could have given to others.

The movie would've been fine without all the excess Daggett fat.

I'm also not that satisfied with how the
true nature of Dent was revealed. I would've liked something more elaborate. Gordon wrote it down on a piece of paper and that was found by Bane, who was already in Gotham by that point. I liked the idea that Bane wanted to complete Ras mission, but had that added beef to start with. The Dent thing is something he enacts after, you know what I mean?

I would change the prologue back to the original version. Man was that voice deflating to hear at the beginning of the movie. Completely detached from the environment, with the ADR being painfully obvious.

Brilliant takes just thrown away because people whined about not understanding him, such a damn shame.
