Daredevil What you DIDNT like from Daredevil Season 1(spoilers abound)

There was no real comic book spectacle in any of the action. No real cinematic action set pieces.

DD got beat too easily and too often.

The excessive violence (and to an extent) profanity was off putting some of the time.

Way too many long conversations. Some that could've been edited as to improve the pace and a few that could've been whacked all together.

The costume really should've came in earlier. There's really no excuse for them holding out so long in this day and age.

Only ONE token shot of his Radar Sense.

No real supervillians to speak of. We got Red Ninja guy,but that's about it.

A lot of my problems can be summed up in their mindset of "Telling, not showing". We don't get to see Matt save the guy that resulted in his blindness, only the aftermath. We don't actually see Battlin' Jack Box in the ring, only the aftermath. The aforementioned lack of radar sense.Even the action was affected by this many times. For example in the last episode where the camera focuses on the crooked cop's face instead of actually letting us see DD in action. (I mean the show is called "Daredevil" right? I'm not wrong for actually wanting to see him in action, right?) I don't know if it's a product of their minimalist framework for the show or working with a TV budget, but they certainly didn't rise above TV's limitations.

I really don't see why people have looked past some of these seemingly obvious flaws. Perhaps once the bloom is off the rose. But, I found most of the show fairly underwhelming.

Nothing really, just that I didn't get how Fisk thought he was really helping Hell's Kitchen.

1. The red costume. Now, it's indeed more accurate to say "didn't like" rather than "hate" so I'd just like to explain. More specifically, I didn't like that he went to Melvin Potter to ask for the lightweight fabric material of Kingpin's suit and left with some plastic-looking, armor-plated, dare I say it, monstrosity.

2. The child acting. I personally think we've seen better child acting in even the rest of the MCU. For instance, I feel Harley from Iron Man 3 and the kids that played young Loki/Thor had more natural talent than Young Matt Murdock/Young Wilson Fisk. I hate child acting in general, but this specifically spoils an otherwise perfect ensemble cast.

3. The progression. Another factor that I'd merely consider "imperfect" rather than out-and-out "bad." Episodes 1-6 we see Daredevil saving the day, but we don't understand how he has the skills to do so until Episode 7 "Stick." Hell, we don't truly understand how he has any more capability for awareness of his surroundings than a blind man until Episode 5 "World on Fire."

Early on we are made aware that Fisk/Wilson's employer is evil and to be feared. But why? How has Kingpin amassed his wealth? What does he do that makes him evil other than kill the occasional thug? And as others have pointed out, what is his endgoal for saving Hell's Kitchen?

Show still gets a 8.5/10 from me.

The one thing that grated on me, and I might be alone in my opinion of this, is D'onofrio's voice was a little too raspy sometimes. If anything it made me feel that his whispering was almost as forced as Bale's Batman voice. It didn't sound menacing, it was almost like he was too shy to speak up.

My main gripe was that it ended, I want more nao!

I was really bummed by Ben's death, I kept thinking with the Spidey announcement he was going to get a future at the Bugle next season. Such a great character.

I better be seeing a DD on the suit next season.

Wesley leaving the gun on the table made zero sense.

Ben's death was really unnecessary.

Fisk voice. Just came off so forced to do the deep voice thing.

Why Vanessa falls for Fisk in first place. Didn't buy that should would date him in the first place. Nothing stood out about him asking her out.

It ended.:csad: I wanted to see more of young Matt being trained by Stick. Seems like they rushed over that part. He was already during flips and round House kicks. Just a bit more of a time span acknowledgement would have been great there.

that may come down the road (training session) next season, the more the Hand and Stick's group get into it. and again I hope it more strongly focused on development Murdock's senses of touch, scent and hearing (brush of air, body odor, footsteps ,etc.) that evolves into his fighting skills.

Not enough Daredevil powers shown. No 'Radar' image, no hearing
the click gun barrel, they could have highlighted the heartbeat of red ninja who was hiding/holding his breathe in the dark warehouse room, and show the excessive pain DD experiences from excessive noise and odor as result of enhanced senses (hearing, scent) Like Superman, if you are going to highlight his powers, also highlight his weaknesses.
and I much rather be 'shown' his powers than hearing Murdock 'talk' about his powers.

Just way too much lengthy talking and dialogue. Made the earlier shows drag and gave it a slow pace.

Foggy and Karen characters were boring in the beginning, though their roles finally picked up in the last few episodes.

So many aerial shots of New York City.
So many shots from Jersey, Queens and Brooklyn with New York City in the background.

Where?
Where was AVENGERS TOWER?

Did I miss it? I would of thought they might have thrown it in there!

Again if I missed it I apologize.

Other than that. 10/10!

- Ben's death. Just seemed unnecessary. As much as I hated to see him go though, I'm not sure I'd want him to come back because of how many fake out deaths the MCU has already pulled.

- Wished for more of the court cases.

- The classic suit not coming in until the very end of the finale.

Just a few gripes...

1) Jack's death. I thought it worked much better in the comics as a last minute change of plans than a preplanned suicide mission that would put his blind son into an orphanage.

2) Karen tricking Ben into seeing Wilson's mom. Yes, his death is indeed your fault.

3) The final suit. I totally warmed up to the sleek ninja outfit, and thought that look should have carried over into the red version. Cut down on the bulk and get rid of the black and we may have something here.

1.) I'll be repeating, but Ben's death. While it worked in the context of the season, it really dampers the potential stories they could done with him. Eh maybe bring in Pre-Dan Slott Phil Urich as a replacement? *shrugs*

2.) With the other Netflix shows going on after this, we have idea if or when we'll get a season 2.

Wouldn't it be great if maybe some of the other Netflix shows take place before or during Daredevil and allow for more Ben appearances?

I agree with people who didn't like Fisk's voice. It seemed very forced...Vincent's natural voice would have been just fine.

And is it me or did a few of the characters even over-annunciate some lines?

But I'm just nit-picking now...I love the show.

As many have said; Ben's death is something I dislike, because of what Kirk Langstrom mentioned about his importance to the story of Daredevil.
1.No Supervillains. This is a goddamn Superhero show with no supervillains(except Fisk).
Melvin Potter (Gladiator) and Leland Owlsly (the owl) are available.
Sure they did not show Leland jr, but we will see him.

To be honest, that's a reasonable point. Kingpin's suit did not look like an armor because of the light weight padding.

I'm really surprised by the disappointment at the lack of superpowers and supervillains. I enjoyed having those as background elements, not brought fully to the surface yet. It was implied that the kid Stick killed was some sort of super human, and Madame Gao clearly possessed super strength. And as Spider-Aziz pointed out, Gladiator has been shown and Owl has been hinted at.

Personally, I'm really glad they didn't go the Flash route and have him fight his whole Rogue's Gallery (I'm sorry) in the first season.

I honestly can live without comic book Owl. If all we get was Owlsley from this season I'll take it. He was true in personality to the source material, which is all I ask for. Him trying to undermine Fisk is straight from the comics.

Its a very very minor one but just that end scene felt very ''CW'' to me

Honestly feel like this is true but because of the music. The score just ramps up to something with a more traditional superhero-y vibe, and it doesn't work that well. I bet if you have the exact same scenes with different musical choices, it wouldn't have felt so off.

I love the opening titles theme, but hearing the theme like that didn't work. I still love that last shot though. :hmr:

Death of BU.
Now that Marvel can use Spider-Man characters, it would have been so cool for Ben to join the Bugle. Alas.

Costume.
The black costume is better than the red costume. The red costume was a big let down. A busy MESS of a design.

Fighting.
Thought Daredevil was taking way too much a beating from 'common' thugs but it grew on me.

Stick leaves young Matt.
IMHO Stick leaves way too early in Matt's training. That would mean all the martial arts stuff taught to him by Stick was done in a matter of months, the rest Matt learned himself. Hmm, that's a stretch.

World on fire.
I hate the visual for DD's sight. Thankfully you hardly ever see it.

Other than that, the best superhero TV show 'EVER' by absolute miles.

You're probably right. The music is not fitting the scene ...
But still, the transition Fisk-Daredevil was bad - it fells very "CW" tv show ... And Daredevil had until that ending, a movie quality cinematography. So it's kinda disappointing.

I don't get the hate for the final scene. It was like the sole comic booky thing they allowed themselves.

The only thing I hated about that scene was I was all like "Yeah! Now we have Marvel's Daredevil!!!"

and the series was over.:csad:

The season was over.
Now that season 2 is coming next year, the wait for more of the story is shorter than it was. :D
