Shifting Shadows by Patricia Briggs (an anthology of 10 short stories (plus 2 'outtakes') that take place in the world of her Mercy Thompson & Alpha & Omega series).
I liked it. Granted, one of the short stories I already have in two other books (The "Alpha & Omega" short story) and have read several times, but the other stories I really enjoyed. In Particular:
Silver which tells of how Samuel first met Arianna (who readers first met in Silver Borne (Mercy Thompson book #5)). It also gives us a look at how Samuel became a werewolf along with his father, Bran (who would become the leader of all North American wolves)
In Red, with Pearls (takes place between Silver Borne (MT#5) and River Marked (MT#6)) is a bit of a mystery featuring the werewolf Warren trying to figure out who hired someone to kill his boyfriend. I liked this one because it ended up explaining something that I was confused about in Frost Burned (MT#7). In FB (spoilers for both FB and for this short story) [BLACKOUT]Adam mentions that their witch for hire, Elizaveta, had lost two of her apprentices due to the wolves. I was confused during my re-read of that book because I only recalled one of her apprentices being lost due to the wolves - in the very first Mercy Thompson book, and couldn't recall any of the previous books mentioning a second one lost as a result of problems with the wolves.[/BLACKOUT] - this short story explains away my confusion with that - but it also meant that early on the story, I kind of figured the mystery out.
I also really loved Redemption (takes place between Frost Burned (MT#7) and Night Broken (MT#8)). It's from British werewolf Ben's point of view, he's a wolf that I've been intrigued by for a while - particularly since Iron Kissed, and I'm glad that Briggs delved a little deeper into what makes him tick as well as having him grow as a character in this story (and his alternatives to not swearing had me laughing out loud).
