Finished Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor.

A contemporary fantasy novel focusing on the self-discovery of its main character. It has some creatures, angels, and otherworldly settings. That too.

I like the first 40% or so of it but then it derails itself a bit as the [blackout]romance sub-plot takes over[/blackout] and intertwines with [blackout]flashbackpalooza as the whole last act of the book[/blackout].

It's possibly being made into a feature film or series. There's a follow-up book called Days of Blood & Starlight that came out last year that I might read some day, but not any time soon. Have a lot of other things on my plate.

The Skrayling Tree by Michael Moorcock

If you like Indians, America's history, Vikings, Nazis, Elric of Melnibone, the sword and sorcery genre, you'll enjoy this one.

i read both books this month.

the begining of smoke and bone took forever to get anywhere for me. i enjoyed it more than i thought i would i think just because it was such a different kind of book. a macabre feel to it

the sequel is decent, but it's not as strong a book as the first. a lot of stuff goes down though

Inverted World - Christopher Priest

How was that? I read The Prestige a few weeks ago and enjoyed it... Although the re-write the Nolan's did for the movie was phenomenal, and actually had much more impact, IMHO. I did like the book enough to give Priest another shot. Is it worth tracking down?

Anyone read any of the Hangman's Daughter series?

Funny how Perry kind of predictied the current crop of zombies in the Resident Evil series. I really enjoyed City of the Dead.
