Synopsis:
The kingdom of Goredd: a world where humans and dragons share life with an uneasy balance, and those few who are both human and dragon must hide the truth. Seraphina is one of these, part girl, part dragon, who is reluctantly drawn into the politics of her world. When war breaks out between the dragons and humans, she must travel the lands to find those like herself—for she has an inexplicable connection to all of them, and together they will be able to fight the dragons in powerful, magical ways.

As Seraphina gathers this motley crew, she is pursued by humans who want to stop her. But the most terrifying is another half dragon, who can creep into people’s minds and take them over. Until now, Seraphina has kept her mind safe from intruders, but that also means she’s held back her own gift. It is time to make a choice: Cling to the safety of her old life, or embrace a powerful new destiny?

Mystic River by Dennis Lehane.

I've never seen the movie and knew nothing of the story. Holy crap was that a good book! Now I can't wait to check the film out.

Currently reading Shutter Island by Denis Lehane (which is one of my favorite movies... if not my favorite) and listening to Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart. Shutter Island so far is fantastic. Bridge of Birds not so much... dang book club book.

If you like Lahane that much, you have to read his series with Gone Baby Gone in it. The first book is A Drink Before the War. The whole series was amazing!

This summer hasn't been great for reading like it usually is...

I read 200 pages of The Magicians in 1 day and sadly haven't had time to delve back in.

Last year I swore I read a book per week.

I read 200 pages of The Magicians in 1 day at the beginning of June, and sadly haven't had time to delve back in.

I get one done in about two or three days. I'm currently reading Battlefield Earth by L Ron Hubbard. It's huge so that'll be at least a week. :p

If the novelization of Shutter Island is as good as the movie and Mystic River, I think I'm going to have to go on a Lahane binge.

I finished Scarlet Gospels on Wednesday, and I've been reading Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere for about.. A week? Two weeks? Honestly, I chuckle when I see people reading books in a couple of days or within one week. Not in a horrible way, mind, rather it just reminds me how slow a reader I am. I could never read a book in a day, or two days. It's a couple of pages over coffee, possibly a couple more later on that day - though with Neverwhere it is just a book I read when out, having coffee alone - and that's it. Took me six months to read Jule's Verne's Five Weeks in a Balloon.

I wish I could get through them quicker. I have four more Neil Gaiman books, and Clive Barker's Imajica to start after this one. :(

halfway through The DUFF. nothing like the movie at all except in names only lol

The strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Also "Ollala" and " The body Snatcher" by Stephenson too and in the same volume.

Metro 2034 - Dmitry Glukhovski.

The sequel to Metro 2033, which is one of my favourites in recent years. This one feels really half assed and rushed. I'm not sure how much of it is lost in translation (The novels where written in Russian) but a lot of the writing feels inconsistent. Still if anyone else is a fan of Metro 2033, I do recommend this because it helps give some clarity about the fate of various characters in the the first novel.
