A very outstanding flick, from beginning to end it was a fantastic film. Daniel Day-Lewis basically brought out his inner Robert De Niro on screen which was fantastic to watch. Leonardo DiCaprio was great as well, nice to see his early films where he started to branch out of Titanic. Also Cameron Diaz surprised me the most seeing that she's always had the potential of being a great actress. Not to mention my favorite part of the film was that epic battle in the first 10 or so minutes. Liam Neeson vs Daniel Day-Lewis? F*** Yeah.

Haven't seen it myself though.

Even in a film like this Dennis Hopper could show what an amazing commodity he was to cinema.

The film itself though is awesome!

Kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut, again. Love this film. Probably my favourite "swords and sandals" movie ever. My only problem with it is Orlando Bloom. He's great in the quiet moments, and the romance is really well done. But his "inspiring" speech at the end before the final battle sorta falls flat.

THE HANGOVER 2

Whenever i hear a sequel is being planned for a mega succesful film,i say to myself how can they top the first film? There are exceptions like the Die Hard sequels,and the Fast and the Furious sequels.They ranged from pretty good to excellent.The Hangover 2...not so much.

The boys are back in.....Thailand for the wedding of Stu to Lauren (the gorgeous and underused Jamie Chung)
Bradley Cooper as frat boy Phil, Ed Helms as the buttoned down Dr. Stuart "Stu" Price,
Zach Galifianakis as the man child Alan.They bring along Teddy, Lauren's brother(Mason Lee) Some beers on the beach fade out to the lights of Thailand,and the trio wake up in a run down apartment ,hung over to the 10th power and Teddy is missing.
I laughed out loud at certain scenes and situations and the trios reactions to the trouble they have gotten themselves into once again.Especially Helms's screams and facial expressions.
Its definitely more raunchy than the first film,but some of it felt forced.The racial humor was a bit overdone IMO .Why the writers jammed so much of it in the film is beyond me.Most of it was met by dead silence and groans from the audience
Ken Jeong's role as gangster Leslie Chow is extended this time around and he's funny but where his story leads doesnt amount to much,but it was fun to see Paul Giamatti briefly as Kingsley a rival to Chow.
There will likely be a third film,but i may sit that hangover out with a few aspirin and a glass of water.

SIDENOTE

It truely bothered me that out of the 100 people standing online to get in the theatre about 20 of them were kids under 9
I could only imagine the parents trying to explain some of the things that went on in the film to them


Kung Fu Panda 2


This is a sequel that works on so many levels
Jack Black as Po The Kung Fu Panda is seeking inner piece,his roots,and his stomach is seeking dumplings.
But before any of that is resolved he and the Furious Five Angelina Jolie as Master Tigress,Jackie Chan as Master Monkey,Seth Rogen as Master Mantis,Lucy Liu as Master Viper,must face off with a new threat to China ,Lord Shen(Gary Oldman) and his wolf army
The visuals are stunning the standouts are when Po and the Furious Five journey to stop Shen,over mountains and landscapes.
Terrific voice work including James Hong ,Michelle Yeoh ,Danny McBride,Dennis Haysbert and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
I liked the serious turns in the film as Po's repressed memories come back to him,a strong message of the importance of family runs throughout the film,but a nice balance is kept due to Po's bumbling now and then.
The snow leopard in the first KFP was far more intimidating than the peacock Shen in this film,but Shen is sinister enough and has enough tricks up his feathers to make him watchable.
Im looking forward to part 3

I had the same thought yesterday while watching Troy, he is fine with facial expressions but he delivers all his lines the same way ( I am sure it is also the case in LotR ).

A film that I keep appreciate more and more with repeated viewings. As always it's wonderfully directed and here Lynch created a mesmerizing film that perfectly balances his idiosyncrasies within the context of a comfortable and constructed narrative.
