You Only Live Twice

6.5/10

fairly entertaining with a few really cool action/set pieces (like the gyrocopter chase, the rooftop chase, and the volcano assault) but I think this is the film where it was apparent that things were going a little to over the top and the story was given less attention. Some of the sets were amazing though. The SPECTRE volcano lair is a sight to see.

Really liked characters like Tiger Tanaka and Aki. The Japanese setting was well used.

Donald Pleasance certainly makes an impression as Blofeld. Not my ideal take on the character when looking at the novels description or even his limited presentation in earlier films but its probably the version best remembered.

Telly Savalas' Blofeld in On Her Majesty's Secret Service was the best one. He looked like the Blofeld guys like Dr. No, Rosa Klebb, and Emile Largo would take orders from. He also looked a hell of a lot more menacing than Pleasance, and was physically equal to Bond.

I think Savalas is closest the the source in terms of spirit. There's things I liked about him and Pleasance. None of the Blofelds have really been pitch perfect to me but Gray was the worst. I even liked Max Von Sydow better.

I watched "Just Go With It" yesterday...it was surprisingly enjoyable. Very predictable but still entertaining film.

21 Grams - 9/10

The frenetic nature of the flashbacks and flash-forwards is pretty jarring at times, but it's rewarding as **** if you stay with it. Some of the finest ensemble acting I've seen.

:lmao:

Not surprising since Diamonds Are Forever is one of the worst Bond movies.

Cars 2- 4/10

‎25 years, 26 Academy Awards, 10 movies with 90% or more on Rotten Tomatoes scores, and 11 great movies later...Pixar's reign of perfection finally ended. Cars 2 was complete trash and easily the worst movie of the Summer. As a huge Pixar fan I am very disappointed that this movie exceed all my negative expectations. I loathe Pixar for showcasing and propelling Larry the Cable to stardom. Also, what kind of f**ed up message are they sending to kids? Alternative fuels are BAAAAD and Big Oil will always be around? What kind of s*** is that? Good god. this movie was just awful.

Well, when you spend a month watching all 22 official Bond movies, the first two attempts at Casino Royale, and Never Say Never Again, that happens. :woot:

Yeah I've been watching that tonight. The plot is pretty confusing at times. Just too much going on with the diamond smuggling. I can see the new direction they were talking about for the franchise but Connery fits in there like a square peg in a round hole. DAF is a Roger Moore movie...and not even a very good one

The Wilard Whyte (aka Howard Hughes spoof) stuff is lame. I mean Jimmy Dean? Jesus.

At least I will say Connery's hairpiece isn't AS bad as I remember it being in most scenes.

The only reason they made the movie was for a cash-in, and they're going to get a huge cash in for this movie. They're expected get $10 billion in merchandising sales (compared to 3.1 billion for Toy Story 3). Good for them, bad for us because we ended up with this movie.

I'm glad Moore's first movie was in Live and Let Die. It was a much better film, despite some crappy humor at times in that film, but I still liked it.
