The Mask of Zorro - 8/10

Watched this to get the taste of Transformers 3 out of my mouth. It's been so long since I've seen this. But I remember being obsessed with this when it first came out around '98. The idea of a masked man has always fascinated me. I've always been drawn to the fact a man is two different people and the transformation occurs when he puts on the mask. And as a huge Batman fan, watching this was a joy, because we all know the influences come from Zorro. That and the childlike wonder, as far and simple as a child may think of at the time, what I remember is still carried over into everything I love to this day.

What a solid action adventure film that evokes the kind of films of the past while making it contemporary, yet it never loses the magic of what it's going for. A straightforward plot, with characters that are well written. The dialogue is funny and charming with the right sprinkles of humor added. And the stunts are fantastic. This is how you do an action adventure film.

You forgot to mention Catherine Zeta-Jones getting her dress sliced off. :cwink::awesome:

Barton Fink

A terrific film but can anyone explain to me the 3rd act? Yeah I know it's a Coen film but to me it felt like a odd left turn that didn't need to happen, though I did enjoyed it.
9/10

Watched the first two this morning before seeing the new one. The original is better than I remembered it being but still pretty bad overall, and the second isn't very good but can be entertaining in a dumb fun sort of way if you're in the right mood. DOTM though is surprisingly pretty good, a big improvement over the first two in a lot of ways.

DOOMSDAY MACHINE Started filming in 1967, production halted for lack of funds, restarted in 1972 with none of the original cast. Hilariously bad movie to begin with made even worse by having to disguise some of the actors (put them in spacesuits that conceal thier face and hire actors that sound absolutely nothing like the originals) and coming up with an idea out of far left field to explain the abscense of the others.

Just Zeta Jones in general was amazing to look at. Her beauty pierces through the screen and stabs into your heart. But a good kind of stabbing. :awesome:

Probably the best pure action adventure movie since Raiders.

I liked this film, it's a very relaxing watch.

Sue me, I think ROTF is enjoyable in the same way Troll 2 is; so ridiculous and silly in parts it's actually fun to watch because of that, and is almost so bad it's good. I know opinion on DOTM are mixed, but I dug it. It's no classic but it kept me entertained.

But I won't lie that ROTF definitely has quite a few indefensible things about it. Jetfire farting out a parachute, anyone?
