What's The Last Movie You Watched? VIII - Part 4

Election - 9/10

Probably my favorite school movie. One of the last shots of Matthew Broderick is a great sendoff for his character.
He tells himself he's progressed in life, but he sees Tracy Flick and he hypocritically retreats to the same adolescent attitude as before. He throws something at her, and offscreen we hear "You *******!" as he runs away to the Lincoln Memorial -- familiar territory for his job -- from that info and introspection he can't face.

2.5/5

This definitely made up for the ****** second film. By film standards, it's still not a good movie, but it was damn fun. I was happy as hell that they got rid of the raunchy and childish humour, that and the parents(primarily the Mom)weren't as annoying, same with Turturro. I also liked the new girl more than Megan Fox.

One thing that annoyed me was that a lot of the Autobot/Decepticon dialogue just wasn't that good. Most of what Optimus said fell flat, it was like they tried too hard with his speeches.

Although the action was good, I get the same feeling I had towards the Jurassic Park sequels. Kind of a been there done that kind of feeling. The first Jurassic Park and the first Transformer films brought that spectacle to the big screen for the first time, seeing Dinosaurs and robots that looked that realistic. The action in the second and third films for both series might have been bigger, but the originals still hold a place in my heart for being new and fresh. So although I did like the action in this third movie, it just wasn't as mind blowing.

The Mask of Zorro - 8/10

Watched this to get the taste of Transformers 3 out of my mouth. It's been so long since I've seen this. But I remember being obsessed with this when it first came out around '98. The idea of a masked man has always fascinated me. I've always been drawn to the fact a man is two different people and the transformation occurs when he puts on the mask. And as a huge Batman fan, watching this was a joy, because we all know the influences come from Zorro. That and the childlike wonder, as far and simple as a child may think of at the time, what I remember is still carried over into everything I love to this day.

What a solid action adventure film that evokes the kind of films of the past while making it contemporary, yet it never loses the magic of what it's going for. A straightforward plot, with characters that are well written. The dialogue is funny and charming with the right sprinkles of humor added. And the stunts are fantastic. This is how you do an action adventure film.

How is Legend of Zorro? They're practically giving it away in blu ray.

I liked this film, it's a very relaxing watch.

I agree although I didn't like the narration in this but nevertheless it was a good film. It delves into themes that Allen is known for and there are wonderful performances from the cast, but Cruz is the standout, when her character appeared Cruz's performance overshadow everything else in this film. Allen makes Barcelona gorgeous as well.

The Ghost Writer. Most of it was great, other parts had me face palming with some of the most idiotic descision making I've ever seen in my life. Eli Wallach rocked up for a bit too, so that's always cool.

Sue me, I think ROTF is enjoyable in the same way Troll 2 is; so ridiculous and silly in parts it's actually fun to watch because of that, and is almost so bad it's good. I know opinion on DOTM are mixed, but I dug it. It's no classic but it kept me entertained.

But I won't lie that ROTF definitely has quite a few indefensible things about it. Jetfire farting out a parachute, anyone?

Among other awful things And wow, I don't even remember that, but you just reminded me why the movie sucks even more. But that's fine if you like it. My picture was humorous rather than insulting.

Insulting with humor even. :o

There wasn't much of childish humor. And those two small robots weren't as annoying as I thought they were going to be, but there was the raunchy humor. Granted, no testicle humor, but the stall scene and the completely uneccessary inclusion of Ken Jeong killed it for me.

And I though the robot scenes were the best in the film. It brought me back to the shows. Optimus was so badass as usual.

I've seen parts of it.

That should probably tell you everything.

Not very good at all. made me realize Martin Campbell is usually only as good as his scripts.

While Mask was clever high adventure Legend is a nonsensical farce most of the time. There are a few cool stunts but other than that not much I can recommend it on.

Green Lantern. A bit disappointing but still enjoyed it.

Cars 2. I enjoyed it a lot.

The Tree of Life. Loved it.

X-men: First Class

8-8.5/10

Finally, an X-Men movie that doesn't make me feel like a schmuck for caring about the franchise. I loved McAvoy and (especially) Fassbender, and the film did a really good job with the character development of Xavier and (especially) Magneto. I also appreciated how much the writers did to tie the story in with the previous movies; I think it will even make some elements of the X-Men film story better when looking at them as an overall arc.

I'm gonna need some examples of the idiotic decision making.

Taking Rycrofts advice and waiting to see Ruth's reaction instead running like hell and giving his discovery to Rycroft.

I'd prefer they used Thomas Harris' novel ending.

I know, I was aware of that, it's all good.

I think ROTF can be fun if you're in the mood for a movie you know is so inept and ridiculous, but I can definitely understand why it'd be hated. Certainly we can be here all day naming ridiculous things in that movie and still not be done listing them all :o

The Ghost and his info would've been silenced either way. After she reads the note, we see Wilkinson's confront her and it's implicit that everything will be covered up. I haven't seen it in awhile, maybe Ruth notified Wilkinson, then the Ghost got it. It didn't bother me, either way. Even if he got the info out I think it's safe to assume Emmett, Ruth and other shady officials would get their way.

Donnie Darko - 9/10
