I actually fell asleep during the last 10 minutes of Plan 9. Ed Wood Jr made a real snooze fest in that one.

It really grew on me after a second viewing. I'll be honest and say that I didn't love Miller's Capote besides Hoffman but this, from the directing to the acting, screenplay, editing and cinematography. These factors makes the film and it's just wonderful to see them blend together wonderfully and the film on whole left an long-lasting impression on me.

David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

It was very good, but I think I still prefer the Swedish version. While Fincher did deliver much better pacing during the first two acts of the film, I feel like all of my favorite moments from the Swedish version - Lisbeth's relationship with her mentally vacant mother, how she left whatshisname to burn to death in his car, the increased emphasis on how much Lisbeth dislikes and is fearful of men - all of that seemed to be glossed over or changed in Fincher's version.

Plus, I much preferred the Swedish ending - how it ended sooner after the mystery of what happened to Harriet concluded and with Lisbeth remaining emotionally distant and aloof, walking off into a brand new life.

I'm continually amazed at how much Malick does with images and minimal dialogue. A few lines, some narration, and a bunch of shots of the setting don't initially seem to develop the narrative, but when it's all put together, the result is really stunning.

I just couldn't pass this up on the big screen. My theater had a 70th anniversary event. And there were a lot of people. I think it sold out. It was a fantastic experience. I haven't been in a movie where people really applauded at the end since Star Trek. I go to the movies for things like this.
