What's YOUR favorite ensemble/epic story from DC?

Besides the end scene, it didn't really have much of an epic quality in my opinion. Not like say, Kingdom Come. That's just my opinion though. It just doesn't feel like it was written to be epic.

shut up you damn tards, THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS is UNARGUABLY the best storyline ever written in COMIC BOOKS, PERIOD. MARVEL, DC, IMAGE, ETC ETC ETC DKR IS THE END ALL EPIC COMIC BOOK.

PERIOD

DKR is NOT the best thing ever...

am I the only person who thinks DKR is overrated?

DKR is okay, not really "awesome" but not bad either.

Kingdom Come is EPIC.

It was good.

Just not maybe Kingdom Come good, or Animal Man 1-26 good.

Yes. Yes, you are. :oldrazz:

Seriously, it's not the best story ever, but it's still pretty damn good. Plus it's the first comic I ever bought, so it's got setimental value to me. :woot:

Good first choice. The first comic books I ever read were when Azrael was just becoming Batman. It was a trifle confusing at first, but Knightfall and Knightquest have been a guilty nineties pleasure for me.

I think the entirety of Superman/Batman was one of the most epic Post Crisis stories. I can totally see why a lot of people don't like it, but through the ups and downs you just gotta hold on and it turns out to be a pretty smooth ride.

And why hasn't anyone mentioned Crisis on Infinite Earths yet?

No, youre not.

Kingdom Come
Crisis on Infinite Earths (I eat that end of the Universe stuff right up)
New Frontier
Watchmen (c'mon you guys missed this...)

By the way Watchmen and New Frontier pwn DKR so bad it's ridiculous.

Just goes to show your LIMITED INTELLECT! You probably didnt understand DKR.

I never really thought that much of DKR, or really any of Miller's Batman stories, but that's mostly because I'm a Superman fan and Miller writes Superman like he's an idiot.

Anyway:

Kingdom Come (obviously)
Identity Crisis
Justice (depending on how the rest of it goes)
Trinity
The Golden Age/The Silver Age

What, that it's a commentary on the Cold War. That it was one of many to attempt to introduce a "film noir" style to comics. That it tried to solidify heroes as living in a "grim and gritty" world as opposed to the much more bright and cheery one of norm. Yeah I pretty much figured that one out a while ago...most comics were back then (in the 1980s) anyways.

Frank Miller is good, but he is far more simplistic than Alan Moore or Neil Gaiman. He is pretty straight forward and not very layered either.

Obviously the story was parodying Reaganomics as well, since the disparity between rich and poor in Miller's future Gotham was staggering.

But you probably thought the story was about how "Batman pwns Superman"...at least that is the most depth to which you have commented on it.

Whatever Happened to the Man of Tommorrow?

I will pimp that until the day I die.

And JLA Year One was good.

Epic? I dunno.

But good.

And perhaps the Killing Joke but I'm still not quite certain what you mean by "epic".

Still have yet to read that AND also Year One...although I'd like to read both.

Animal Man 1-26 was awesome...even with crappy art.

James Robinson's entire Starman series.

Superman: Secret Identity

Batman: The Long Holloween

The Sandman Seires

of those that weren't already mentioned.

DC's: THE NEW FRONTIER by Darwyn Cooke is my favorite epic.

Where was there crappy art? I saw no such thing!

Sorry, let me take my hands off your throat.

DKR was great because it wasn't some big intellectual masterpiece. It wasn't some great sci-fi or other such comic book magic. Dark Knight Returns was a Batman book with a view from the gutters. All the little dark places most comic books don't dare shine their light. Miller brought it hard and from the streets, which is what he does best.

It's not Watchmen caliber, but what is?

Dude, the last 2 or 3 issues were just massive.World wide madness!

To GoldenAgeHero,I'm talking about the Robinson mini entitled that.

Sure it wasn't as epic as a Kingdom Come in terms of action, but definitely in terms of what was at stake and how Robinson masterfully kept the story going without resorting to any battle royals until the final pages.I love that story with a goddamn passion.
