Fantasy Wheel of Time

I don't know if it's just the long wait between seasons, but I found the first episode of season three to be almost impenetrable. There's way too many characters, too many factions, too much lore that needs to be re-explained. The motivations of certain people also left me scratching my head, and I honestly have lost the plot about what the story is even building to. At the same time, the broad strokes of the story and its characters doesn't seem that unique or interesting, and appear to follow long established tropes without anything differentiating it from other prophecy/chosen one narratives.

And with this supposed to be a legitimate rival of other fantasy shows like House of the Dragon, the depiction of magic and the action set pieces in general are still laughably goofy.

I've never truly enjoyed the show, but I thought I could stomach it given the dearth of decent fantasy shows that aren't Game of Thrones related. However, I think I've reached my limit with Wheel of Time, and I doubt I'll be watching any more.

Can't say I am surprised, not when you have to wait every 2,3yrs for a new season

Unsurprising news. I have never read the books but it seems like another one of those shows in which the leads were probably teens in the novels yet they are clearly 20/30 something actors playing the characters in the shows. Older casting choices tend to make youthful naivety and impulsiveness look like stupidity when the characters look like full grown adults.

I have four shows under my watchlist, that is like that (Last of Us, Boys, Yellowjackets and And Just Like That). I hate the long gap between seasons.

What turned me off from the first season, despite apparently boasting a high budget, everything looked rather cheap and too clean. Also, the lead actors all came off as rather aloof, lacking any charm or likability. Like the dude playing Rand. I remember in the second episode, he yells at Moraine, and I don't understand why. Like dude, you followed her voluntarily of your own free will. No one made you leave. Why are you getting so angry and worked up?

Perrin's wife dies, and like...no one cares? She was apparently close with the whole group, but no one seems sad or upset she's dead. Even Perrin doesn't seem all that upset. He gets over it rather quickly, especially considering he's the one who killed her.

Also, did Perrin's wife even have a single line of dialogue before she dies?

I stuck with the show through the first two seasons, but I finally gave up during the third. Despite the warmer reception the show got this year, I thought the writing reached an all-time low, with character motivations and plot shenanigans becoming practically undecipherable. It didn't help that the budget was clearly nowhere near enough to realize the vision from the books, and the execution of magical powers reminded me more of Dark Phoenix than Lord of the Rings.

Still, I know the show did have its fans, and I'd rather Amazon spent its money on this than in furthering its global conquest.
