When Geek became cool

I think geek became cool when Bill Gates became the richest man in the world. I mean, suck on THAT, NFL players. :woot: Hence the herds of geek masses upon Silicon Valley hoping to strike it rich back in the late 90's. I think it was cool to be a nerd then.

Geek has only become more accepted nowadays. I mean, look at Stephen Colbert. He was a geek back when geek wasn't cool, but now he's totally popular.
 
Seems to me like "geek culture" is loved in Japan, I guess because they make most of the things that we loved.
