When the time comes to get rid of your comics...

I made a decision a long time ago that I'm only going to keep up all this crap, you know comics, toys, etc, until the point where I fo the whole married and kids thing. I dunno when that'll be but I'm not even thinking about it until then...

Keep the comics, if i ever need to, i sell them otherwise they're mine and ONLYMY!!! preeeeeeeecioooooooouuuuuuuussssss...............

How will you do it? Give them to your kids? Sell them? Throw them away? Even if you keep them to the very end, will you have an opinion with what to do with them? Or will you leave it for other people to decide?

I ask because I'm studying archive science and we are talking about community/cultural preservation. I wonder if there would ever be an interest in a site that stores and displays comic books. Think of all the comics that have been created over the decades. There is such a huge amount of characters, genres, titles and and subjects. There isnt a lack of material, but would there be a lack of interest in such an place?

Oh, that's one of the careers I was thinking into going into, so my answer to this is probably a bit bias.

I love the idea. I'm a huge proponent of keeping records of things. I'd love if there was a database somewhere that had things cross referenced extensively.

In terms of getting rid of them. I did a large purge of them a year or so back and ended up giving them to various friends around the country. The rest I kept for reading/sentiments/partofcollection. I'd probably just leave them to someone I know would either give them away or keep them.

That's interesting. Why?

I'm going to keep my comics, until I have a kid or when my nephew is a bit older. I'll let the borrow my comics to read them, to get them into it. If I die, I'll hand them down to the next comic book fan in my family.

I just thing that there's going to be a point where I have to stop buying crap and it might as well be for a big reason rather than just because. I mean it takes up money and if I'm doing the whole married and kids thing then I'll need that money. I'm enjoying it while I can but I don't see me dragging a 3 year old to the comic shop to pick up some Deadpool...

I might would sell some of mine, but the rest (or all of them) I'd just give to my future kid(s).

One of my favorite things as a kid was my dad reading me Batman comics for bedtime stories. :d'aawww:

From a monetary standpoint I can see the point. It still seems a bit shortsighted though. After marriage you will still have time/money for your hobbies. Same after you have kids.

It might not be for the entire marriage/parenthood but I don't think it's right in signing off your hobby. How do you know that 3 year old isn't having fun going to the comic shop to pick up some Deadpool? (He's child friendly! :awesome: )

My parents still indulge in their hobbies. Not as much as before marriage/children but it's unhealthy to stop 'you' because of your wife and children.

**** that noise, I'll be dragging my 3 year old into the comic shop to pick up some Deadpool. Read it or no dessert!

When I think of the day I'll get rid of my comics, this song comes to mind.

I'm still deciding if I should keep my comics for my kids once they are old enough, or sell them for cheap prices just to get rid of them. But right now I'm too lazy to dig them up from the storage room to do anything about them atm.

Women and children suck the very marrow from your bones, as well as your wallet. Valumart knows this. :oldrazz:

I will never let them go. I worked too hard and drove to too many expos to let them go. Never! :argh:
