Plus, looking at the comic how many times is his origin actually relevant to the story? You don't see the X Men explaining evolutionary theory every movie. The Fantastic Four didn't start the sequel explaining their trip into space and triggered mutations they just gave the viewer credit. I feel generally in a blockbuster movie the audience goes in knowing that they are going to see a person with extraordinary abilities fight evil. So why not just start from there.
Note the bolded words. If we were talking about a sequel to Superman Returns, then you'd be right in not needing it to explain his origin. But that's not what they're doing. This is a "re-introduction" to Superman. It needs to have his origin. The audience needs to know why this is a different continuity, and why things are different. Otherwise they'll jsut think it's a sequel where the kid magically disappeared. And the cast is different.
