Never liked the apocalyptic or dying alone stuff. For elseworlds, sure, but not as his actual future.

That's f****ing awesome! It's just so insane! May I expound upon it just a bit?

Instead of the androids, I'd rather him be more like the Laughing Man in Ghost in the Shell:S.A.C.; a purely digital threat, using his mind to hack systems, unearth secrets, expose corruption and cause mayhem, leaving his symbol in his wake. Instead of an urban legend, the Batman becomes a new myth for a information-crazed world. He even spreads rumors of his own return, and the guilty of Gotham wait in fear. They're not alone.

The Joker's son has become the Clown Prince of All Media, an international star and a twisted pop-idol. His murderous "Jokes" are mimiced by young people everywhere, who also embrace his hedonistic and apathetic views on life. But the orginal Joker's last laugh (right before his son killed him) still haunt his son's memory: a moral victory over Batman is not enough, no matter how funny he looked with his skin stretched into little batwings. He must be totally destroyed, or else he'll be back. Pain and suffering are fuel to him; he'll return, and he'll be stronger than ever.

A chronic insomniac, the new Joker stares out into the night, all night and every night, waiting with the rest. Chemical stimulants keep his mind awake during the day, but the surreal of his subconcious keeps threatening to invade his concious thought. Real madness is setting in. His hackers occasionally shut the Bat out, but can never find him or destroy him. Meanwhile, Joker listens to the reports, his satelite network is constantly interrupted, bat symbols flash across his screens and bats flit through his waking dreams. And he waits.

Finally, decades later, his new body complete (genetically engineered, not constructed), his mind expanded and his intellect increased, his name once more whispered in fear, The Batman steps out of his cave and stalks the shadows of his city once more.

I think that Batman Beyond would be cool. I'd like a story line similar to the Mask of Zorro.

You know, I've thought it over and none of the options quite work for me. As I said, I prefer Batman Beyond, and I'm quite fond of the Kingdom Come version of the character, but neither seems about right. In my eyes, Batman would not just RETIRE as in Beyond. Nor would he resort to the Gotham police state of Kingdom Come: if he would do such a thing, he'd have done so long ago.
I don't particularly like the idea of Bruce keeping at the job far too long and losing his life as a result of his own stubborn nature. He would stop going out in the cape before he was unable to do the job properly, and finish grooming his successor, be it Dick or Tim or whoever. So he would retire as Batman, but not exactly "retire", eh? He's not going to quit the crimefighting business, even as his body fails him.

So Bruce Wayne takes on a new role, like Barbara Gordon did. He gives up the cave to his successor, and (I would say) takes up residence in the Watchtower. There he could play a part as a sort of advisor/strategist/crime lab for the group (aside from his permanent seat at their big round table, of course). Whereas he'd watched Gotham from the rooftops, he now watches the entire world from on high. Monitors goings on, allocating resources and group members, and more or less figuring **** out for his comrades... that is, when he's not devising ridiculously difficult training regimens for Justice Leaguers. I'd also see him playing mentor to younger heroes: almost like your stereotypical master on the mountain-top to offer guidance, training, and harsh, harsh criticism of your shortcomings.

I'm unsure, I don't think I ever truely "got" DKR. There were elements I really enjoyed, like shaving without realising, as if the bat was a different person. But basically anything not involving Batman I didn't "get." Maybe it's because I'm English, so I didn't pick up on some of the American things.

And then there were things that I really liked about BB. Like, it makes sense to me that Batman would, instead of pushing himself and ending up dying, remain in the cave as the "taskmaster" leading and navigating a younger Apprentice.

I know it sounds stupid, but I always thought he'd suit up in the classic suit just once in BB, and the thought of that was what kept me watching. Anyone else?

I suppose practically BB, but as a fan a more mainstrean DKR would work for me.

this might seem dumb, but i was thinking today that batman and robin should be a team, but something wrong happens and robin breaks away from crime fighting and and becomes a criminal.

I think it would be cool.

That arc was already done with Jason Todd(Robin) being murdered by the Joker and coming back to life as a criminal named Red Hood.


As for the topic at hand, Batman Beyond is a very good continuation of the Batman Mythos and should be considered for a live-action movie in the near future.I had already started a casting thread for it and can only see Clint Eastwood as an 80-year old , bitter Bruce Wayne.

Dark Knight Returns, and nothing else comes even close. Don't get me wrong, I liked Batman Beyond, but it just didn't compare to Dark Knight Returns IMO.
