If being attached to a harness in front of a green screen for a scene bugged him so much why would he want star in an entire movie as a guy who flies in space?

Exactly. If being attached to a harness in front of a green screen for a scene bugged him so much why would he want star in an entire movie as a guy who flies in space?![]()
He didn't steal anything from Hal on JL/JLU and he was more popular than Hal's ever been. Hire writers w/talent who give a damn and magic will happen again. They would have actually had to try very hard at making a bad film to make a worse movie than what we got w/Hal. I'm gonna continue to talk about the GA because the movie can't be a success without their support. It can be without yours or mine.Once again you have no idea wtf you're talking about
Lol at the idea that you knew GL 2011 would fail if Hal was used . Whatta joke . If anything it would've failed harder with John because he has such lame material to draw from.
Kirk is more well known than Hal but Hal is a character along the lines of Han or Kirk. That's true.
Once again you only talk about the General audience. Your arguments are baseless once again.
The facts are clear
Hal has better stories and better villains and he is simply a stronger character than John. Hal simply has more potential for a movie series
Without question the center of the GL universe is Sinestro and Hals antagonistic relationship. To avoid that would be a waste
A solo John movie is a horrible idea tht really shouldn't be entertained unless he steals some of Hals stories and relationships
John is such a weak character that he has to steal a better character's storylines and relationships in order to create a decent and cohesive storyline for a movie
Won't be necessary. I agree that Hal's had waaaaay more non-print appearances than the other lanterns. They just didn't amount to much because people still asked why they made GL white when his movie was coming out. JL/JLU still trumps ALL of these appearances in terms of longevity, critical acclaim, and popularity + John was arguably the star of the show. We are having this very discussion(one that comes up damn near everytime a GL film is discussed) because of that show. It's certainly not because of DC pushing him in the comics. Also with all due respect, your opinion of John's popularity is based soley on your love of the JL 'toon. Not only did that show eventually marginalize John after 2 seasons, but it rarely tapped into the GL mythos. That version of John was thinly-written and would never work as part of live action.
Over the last 5 years, Hal has only become more solidified as the centerpiece of the Lanternverse. Anyone who has seen JL-Doom, JL: The FLashpoint Paradox, JL:War, The Green Lantern Animated Series, The Lego movie or the upcoming Throne of Atlantis will have been/will be seeing Hal as GL yet again. The fact (and it is indeed a fact) is that the combined non-print appearances of John, Kyle, Guy, and Alan don't even come close to the appearances of Hal. You don't have to take my word, just look it up
I agree that comedy is the goal, but Hal is far from being A-list when it comes to the GA. Hal's high annoyance factor in the new 52 doesn't inspire confidence in a movie that seems set to be based on the new 52JL:War is post reboot Hal, and I agree about him being the worst thing in that movie.
Hal is definitely not more iconic than Kirk, I agree with this.
Onion TV exaggerate, it's over the top comedy made for some laughs.

I like Reynolds but I like MM even more. If DC were able to get him as Hal it would be awesome. EDIT: Just had a thought - I havent seen MM's name brought up too many times on here previously when talking about casting Hal - is he now just being suggested because of Interstellar, the same way that people are suggesting Jake Gyllenhall as Strange [as opposed to Cumberbatch] because Nightcrawler is currently doing the rounds?
He recently said that a comic book movie is something he'd be open toI support MM for Hal. Not sure if he would want to do a CBM though, now that he's a serious actor.
Despite what you think, GL isn't some pop culture phenomenon that the whole world loves & cares about. This may speak to you being isolated from the world moreso than these people I encountered. If you look around the internet you may find some stuff that surprises you.I'm sorry, but this is nothing but anecdotal evidence. I've never once heard the silly question of "why is GL white?". Not only would that person have to be completely oblivious to DC and comics in general, but he/she would also have to be incapable of doing a simple web search. Where did you encounter people with that degree of isolation from the world?
ALL of our opinions are our perceptions, aren't they? The DVDs, failed movie, all those unsold action figures, &quickly canceled cartoon are evidence that WB wanted Hal to be popular w/the GA, not that he is. JL was created in the past, but it's still popular on Netflix(I didn't see HAl's show in that category) was being shown with good ratings on Vortexx when it existed & is sold OnDemand by Xfinity...in the present. Let's not pretend that Hal's show means anywhere near as much as JL/JLU does. JL/JLU got multiple seasons whereas Hal's show was slated for the axe well before the final episode aired for it's 1st and only season. The petition to bring it back will continue to fail. Moreover, your opinion of JL trumping the GL mythos is just your perception. There are also fans who are just as passionate about the GLTAS and have launched petitions to get it restarted. The JL toon is 8 years in the past and John's simplistic characterization on that show (and his marginalization after season 2) didn't do him justice at all.
Geoff Johns's Green Lantern took the mythos to levels of popularity that the character had never seen. Not only did comic sales go through the roof, but Green Lantern got a live-action movie, two titular DVD movies, and a titular cartoon. That's hard evidence of the GL mythos being more popular than it ever was with the general public, and Johns's departure in late 2012 has been central in the character's cooling off in popularity.
If I recall correctly, the show wasn't canceled because it wasn't popular, it was canceled because it was popular with the "wrong" demographics, much like Young Justice and The Clone Wars.I think he's too big of a name right now to take the job.

They've left Hal out of JL:Trapped in Time & Batman Be-leagured. Hopefully this is a sign that he's being put on the back burner due to the fact that he's not a crucial element.
The show did more to make John popular than the people running DC ever did. Whether they did him justice or not is debatable & you may be right on that, but all that matters to me is that it was a major boost to John's popularity

Thanks dude! yeah i agree, the resemblance is uncannyOh...my...goodness. I never realized the resemblance was that strong. Great finds, Schach.
He's kinda too old... hate to sound like a broken record..
There's literally no reason to assume that. All signs are leading to Hal. John would play a bigger role in the comics if he was going to be in the moviesIt should be John Steward played by Idris Elba since that's the GL we're going to use for JLA
