The first film i had had the best character development, best use of character powers and plot, best beginning best ending, best music.

There are no greater scenes throughout the whole x-men trilogy that rival the ones shown in teh first film.

Wolverine's cage fight and intro is THE BEST PORTRAYAL OF A COMIC BOOK CHARACTER TO DATE. it's simple and effective and sent shivers down everyone's spine who watched it and the best thing about it is that he doesn't even have to pop his claws in that scene, the whole atitude of the character is given across without even his trademark feature. NO scene in any marvel movie has ever managed to capture the essence of a character without some trademark look attached. that alone speaks volumes.

The simple way magneto deals with xaviers most gifted student and wolverine in the statue of libery was magnificent, you don't even see his presence until they are all safely subdued making sure each of them cant use their powers to escape. the fact magneto is taken out in that film is because he's in a weakened state, he's a calculating genius and the manner in which he's easily tricked in the last film is just appauling when you see the vision he's once had.

Magneto's plan in the first film was by far the best motivation of all the films. Turn leaders into mutants so they now see themselves on the other side. Brilliant plan only problem was the fact the method was unstable and that's when he would have to be stopped, it wasn't about masacring of people or humans, it wasn't bravado, it was solid. i felt in the second films the 'kill or humans' and in the third the 'destroy the cure' methods seemed a lil beneath him and that he was regressing.

His dialogue with charles at the end in his plastic prison is fantastic, the whole chess scene is beyond words. it wraps up the film like no other of the series, it feels whole and complete. I've felt the whole jean grey dying at the end of the first film was additional jargan that wasn't necessary (i mean it wasn't even in the graphic novel version which i felt was more complete) and the openess of the last film really does make this film as a end of a trilogy feel weak and unpolished.

WOlverine's sacrifice to rogue at the end of the film is the single most touching scene of all three movies, far more touching than xavier's death which left me feeling bad instead. completely selfless and out of character for this woman who had touched his life and changed him because that's what happened, she came into his life and he felt enough for her to fight xavier's cause but the whole strong relationship faded and it became more about jen and less about her until the end where he no longer cares.

toad was magnificent and is the only character that has positively benefitted from being in the films, although he lost his british background (which a lot of characters seemed to lose their original heritage *cough* pyro/storm/psylocke/rogue *cough*) ray park brough life to the character and i felt that it was done in a marvelous fashion.

simple things like scott by professor's side when he's out cold, also him leading the charge against magneto giving orders in the conference room, doing the macho thing with wolverine, wolverine's instinctive reaction to having a needle injected to him (as simply as the way his claws are pressed against jean's head), scott running to stop jean using cerebro., magneto's reaction to the police, rogue's lil words to senator kelly on the plane, sabretooth's demeanor towards storm (x 2), wolverine cutting his sides open to fight for his lil girl's life.

even though costumes and other things were generally getting better through out the films, i hated wolverine's vest top (should have done things bare chested or in his first x-men hoody he found) and i hated the way both sequels played it safe when they had such a good base to stand on.

simply put, the first film blew away my expectations yet they have remained quite conserved for the last two. so much potential, so much opportunity wasted throughout both.

i feel that the envelope hasn't been pushed that far out than the initial heave of the first film, cumatively the last two have definitely dropped the baton.

That actually makes a lot of sense and I think I agree with you.

I'm really surprised at the number of people that feel that X3 was a better film than X1.( There are even a few saying X3 is better than X2!!!?????!!!!!)

You can't compare f/x and action sequences because X1 was made way back in 2000(if I'm not mistaken) although, the fight between logan/Mystique, logan/sabretooth was a lot better than any of one on one fights we see in X3 ). As for story, Magneto's scheme was a little crappy- I give you that- but the rest of the film rocked. X1 had real depth, it introduced the logan we see in X3 that really doesn't develop the character further at all. If you liked Logan in X3 it's thanks to Singer NOT Ratner. Again, Cyclops may not have been the main character but he certainly was part of the film. The plot demanded he be used and that's what singer did- as opposed to Ratner not involving him in the Phoenix Saga (Am I the only one who sees the problem in this???????).

MY list
1) X2
2) X1

3)X3

1) X2-good story and action, 1 on 1 fight with Deathstryke was amazing
2) X3-so so story, v.good action, FX amazing, no 1 on 1 fight though
3) X-men-very good intro, but lack abit of action [can't say much fo FX since it's pretty old], Mystique fight was cool though.

X1 had the best plot and ending? You mean the lame mutant-making bubble machine?

hmmm. Hyperbole much?

That scene was ok... Nothing Earth shattering.
lame bubble was only one rendition on possibly countless of different variations of mutant abilities, not everyone would have ended up with the same abilties, that's a given. YOu don't think that manipulating the most powerful people in the world for your cause is a great plan, it forces his interests to now become theirs, that's ingenius.

and ending as in xavier's chat with magneto, or do you think the rushed ending in x3 is better. the second one is good but not x1 good.

alright, simple enough, show me an introduction scene which is better than wolverine's in all of marvel film fiction. The closest i can think of is bullseye's.but he messes it up with the whole paper clip part, still great though.

ps what's a hyperbole?

I think it's like media-talk. You know, when it's made catchy or scaldalized a bit. I may be wrong.

right gotcha jean.

it may sound like an exaggeration yet honestly thinking, I've never seen a character on screen before in a marvel production and thrown myself into them so quickly and eaten up a scene so much before. it wasn't hugh jackman acting as wolverine it WAS wolverine. and i didn't even need to see his trademark claws. that's such an insane notion, how ballsy do you have to be to introduce wolverine without showing his claws and get it PERFECT, it's utter madness, i wouldn't bet in a million years it would work but it's complete genius.

i don't think any thing like it has been emulated or even attempted.

1 X3 - Most Action, Good Story, Worked with a base of fairly deep characters from past movies
2 X1 - Good story, great character building, little action
3 X2 - Decent story, decent actionbuilding
I agree with you in full. I like X3 the best it had some minor things I would have changed, but so did, X1 and X2. :)

jeez, why does everyone hate TLS so much? I loved it!! I voted for it, I don't care what anyone else says. lol
The scene in Jean's house, where it goes slow motion in the battle of the minds of the Phoenix and Prof X. WOW!!
That was awesome! Where are you getting that "everybody" hates it I love it, think its the best one. If you look at the poll you'll see that X3 is rated number 2 of the 3, at the moment, that's not bad at all.:)

X3: Emo cyclops dies. nuff said. I haven't seen it but from what I've read, it's a fantastic four meets power rangers. full of silly nonsense on the level of batman and robin. Beast being good doesn't save it, no.

call me old-fashioned, but I tend to think you ought to actually see a film before passing judgement on it.

They are all equal in my eyes. Just one piece of a huge jigsaw puzzle not meant to be seen as separate pieces but part of a whole.

Right now I like more X1, because of its tone, characters development, the climax, etc.

X2 and X3 had much more action, but I these days I like more the story and characters than the action, so I voted for X1.

1. X3
2. X2
3. X1
But I haven't seen X1 in a while so my opinion might change between X2 and X1. I thought X2 was too slow/boring in 2nd act but I loved the building of Phoenix in Jean--I even "misted up" when i first saw it cuz I knew what would be coming for her!! DON'T TELL ANYONE!!!!!! :D

Best Film... as in sophisiticated ect ect...something many film critics loved

X 2 X men united
