I know it is somewhere around The Reigning series.

Thanks.

It was actually way before "The Reigning." Odin dies in #40, so technically the Odinpower would've gone to him right then, but he struggles with the reality of Odin's death and his duty to assume the role of king in #41-44, and then he finally accepts his duty, along with the Odinpower, and debuts his King Thor costume at the end of #44. #44 also happens to be the 'Nuff Said issue, so it has no dialog.

Thanks. Is that around the time where Thor also forces his will on the earth and kills Hulk and others?

That's part of the saga that spins out of Odin's death and Thor's ascension to the throne. It's a huge arc, though, and there are a lot of complexities to it. You'd probably be better off getting the trades that cover it, which are, in order:

The Death of Odin
The Lord of Asgard
Gods on Earth
Spiral
The Reigning
Gods and Men

Newb time, King Thor is Thor at his most powerful correct?

Nope. The version featured in Oeming's "Ragnarok" arc (the arc that ended the last volume of Thor's series) was. Provided, of course, you're using "King Thor" to refer to the incarnation who'd inherited the Odinpower and lost his humanity, featured throughout Jurgens' King Thor saga.

Are we calling him Rune Thor? (the oeming Thor who ended up with the odinpower and the knowledge of the runes)

Thor killed the Hulk?!

He killed the Thing and the Hulk simultaneously with one arm and no access to the Odinpower, actually. I love Thor and all, but that was a bit too extreme even for my tastes. It was all handled off-panel, though, so I can only guess how that went down.

It's as good a name as any, I guess. I'd been calling him Ragnarok Thor.

Agreed Corp! I don't think Thor has ever actually beaten the Hulk one on one before, so for him to actually kill him AND the Thing is ridiculous.

Well the whole battle was pretty badly done. Thor had the Odin power seperated from supposedly by Dr. Strange. The battle starts inn one panel and the next panel the others are down with the Hulk have a trunk sticking out of his stomach.

Never quite understood that but it was simply a plot device showing Thor conquering all.

Yeah, I just chalked it up to page restrictions and imagined a better fight in my head.

the thing is given the way he Thor comics ended when Thor returns he should still be Rune Thor unless Rune Thor creates another Thor and takes the place of Odin.

Well JMS did say he was going to continue where Thor 85 left off, But, that is a VERY good idea! That makes alot of sense.
This is how I see Odin in the coming series.
Thor has already surpassed Odin in the trials, but, Odin actually topped Thor by Sacrificing himself by making himself into a missle to destroy Surtr. Hence moving onto the following step a god like Odin would go, Becoming a part of the Odinforce it's self.
Anyway you look at it, Odin may not be back in his regular form, and Thor may be the only one to see Odin because of his OWN powers.

Yes, the very last incarnation has been reffered to as Rune Thor, because of the Rune powers Thor gained toward the end.
