Which Robin Would You Want For The DCEU?

If Reeves is going for a down to Earth take, there won’t be a Robin. Maybe Bruce Wayne will take in an orphan called Dick Grayson, but I can’t see him bringing the whole idea of a grown man putting a small child deliberately into harm’s way into his movie.

If it’s a big comic fantasy movie though, then it should be Dick.

I think you can introduce Dick about a year or two into Bruce’s career. Maybe three.

And Dick can be a teenager. There’s no reason to make him a child. He can train with Bruce for a few years and hit the scene when he’s 17 - 18.

Dick to be a child when Bruce takes him under his wing, for obvious reasons, given the parallel between them losing their parents so young.

To be honest, I think having Dick Grayson, but no Robin is the way to go.

There’s just no sensible reason for a heavily armoured and expertly trained vigilante to bring a boy into combat with him.

From everything Reeves has hinted about the way he wants his Batman movie to be, I think anyone expecting Robin is going to be disappointed.

I could complain about the lack of Dick Grayson in films/tv but i already have Titans, so whatever :o

Dick to be a child when Bruce takes him under his wing, for obvious reasons, given the parallel between them losing their parents so young.

What’s essential about that parallel is that Dick loses his parents because of a criminal act and becomes enraged enough to want to do something about it. It’s not necessary for Dick to be as young as Bruce was for the latter to see himself in the former. Even if it was, Dick doesn’t actually have to become Robin until he’s older.

To be honest, I think having Dick Grayson, but no Robin is the way to go.

That’d be a pointless waste of potential. We already have a John Blake. :o

No one is asking for a prepubescent Robin.

In my ideal world, there'd only be two Robins.

Dick Grayson and then Jason Todd.

I would go with Jason Todd first but then have Dick take the mantle eventually but obviously build towards it

Sad that Carrie Kelly wasn’t an option but Tim is a good second choice.

If Batman is going to quietly be rebooted and be younger even in the present day, and since all the other heroes are just starting out anyway, it would need to be Dick. His generation of young heroes needs to be developed so we can get some Titans in the DCEU. If Reeves' Batman film is only going to be set in the past, we should still logically only be seeing Dick.

Beyond Dick, the only other Robin I want to see is Damian. IMO, he's the only canon post-Dick Robin worth a damn. I can see the appeal of Jason as Red Hood but he doesn't do much for me personally, and Batman looks bad if he has a dead sidekick and we get more sidekicks afterward. Tim's run in the comics was before my time as a regular comics reader, so I've always found him boring. Damian may be an obnoxious brat (at first), but that's precisely what makes him so entertaining. He contrasts against Dick and even Bruce in much more interesting ways than Tim. If they ever retire the new Batman and want to keep the DCEU going, you have a great partnership with Dick and Damian ready to take over.

I'm going to pretend that Bat-fleck and the Snyder-verse are still in play. Which would mean that Dick has finished his Robin run. I'm going assume that the "dead" Robin was Jason Todd, (we all know what that means.).

Which leaves Tim Drake as the current Robin. Which is who I would have picked because it means we can get crossover from Nightwing, Redhood and a potential Damien for future movies.

All Robins are dead in the DCEU.
Did Snyder confirm this? If so, it's like he's going out of his way to piss off fans.

I'm all for creative experimentation and making changes, but it's like he was being edgy just for the sake of it. Titans is an example of how you can take creative liberties but still respect the essence of the source material.

Sorry abut the rant lol.

Between Titans having him play detective, Young Justice giving him a spec-ops team, and his brief story arc as

I'd rather not spend a movie on Dick as Robin. It's too regressive and the TDKRises dicked around with it too much.

I would like to keep Jason Todd as a non-redeeming villain.

So, that leaves Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, and Carrie Kelley or heck, make Terry McGinnis a Robin.

This is why I like the idea of having Dick already established as Nightwing you could have the already established and strained relationship between him and Bruce. And you could also have whoever you pick as Robin not just want to emulate Batman but wonder if he wants to turn out more like Nightwing.
Pretty much agree with all points for similar reasons. Why go all the way back to the beginning and creatively limit yourself to the Dick Grayson story?

I'd skip him. And go to Tim Drake. That way we have all the cool back story and history with Tim and Jason. Fill in the blanks with flashbacks. Batman dealing with the guilt of losing Jason, and the emotional weight of being a father figure to Dick.

Yep, Dick Grayson fans rather have him as Nightwing than Robin, including myself, Tim is a better choice

I wouldn't want any Robins.

I’ve never really liked Robin as a character, but I’d be happy to see a convincing, believable take on him in Reeves’s film. Though, I will also be quite happy if he isn’t in it. Solo Batman is best Batman.

I like all the Robins, but I'm going to beat the drum for Jason Todd. He's a fascinating character, and I'd argue more inherently dramatic than any of the others. He represents more than any other Robin what Bruce might so easily have become, angry and lost, and Bruce not only sees that, but also sees a kid who could one day become a dangerous criminal.

There are a lot of similarities to Damien, but Damien comes from a secret ninja cult, his mum and dad are Batman and Talia al Ghul. Jason is just a normal Gotham kid hit with tragedy - he's easier to relate to. Also, there is a great ambiguity to Jason - has tragedy made him what he is, or was he a bad seed from the start? Can Batman really get through to him, or was it a mistake making him Robin?

You could get a really dramatic movie out of Jason Todd's story.

This Batman is 25-30 years old. If Reeves wants to introduce Robin, we’re getting Dick Grayson.

I would personally love to see Tim Drake introduced in the big screen as he's my favourite Robin. But Dick Grayson should be the first Robin to be introduced in the DCEU for a few movies and it will be great to see his evolution into Nightwing.

In the present time (ie Post JL), Dick should already be Nightwing, Jason should be Red Hood and Tim Drake should be the main DCEU Robin so that you can build towards Young Justice (WW3 can introduce Cassie, AM 2 can introduce Kaldur, and Blue Beetle has his own film in development).

You can explore the past with The Batman trilogy. A younger Batman that showcases Dick as Robin and ascension to Nightwing, Jason's death and return as Red Hood and the recruitment of Tim. There you go.

I've never liked the strained relationship between Bruce and Dick. Sure Dick grows up and moves out, every child does, but they can still get along.

I just want them to be friends
Absolutely. I don't want to see that aspect of it. I would love for them to stay on good terms when he moves on - I need it. :csad:

Same here - although I want him to graduate to Nightwing too and make way for Robin no.2.
Me too. I love him both as Robin AND Nightwing. And I agree, another Robin at some point would be great too. :D
