Which version of the Guardians of the Galaxy do you want to see on film?

Which version of the Guardians of the Galaxy would you prefer to see in a movie?

  • Original 30th Century Version (Major Victory, Yondu, Martinex, etc)

  • Modern Day Version (Starlord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon)

As long as ILM/Weta is involved and Rocket Raccoon has the same personality and weapons he has in the comics, I guarantee he'll become the most popular character to the GA.

My team would consist of:

Drax the Destroyer
Star-Lord:
Gamora:
Adam Warlock:
Groot:
Rocket Raccoon:

I think 6 is the optimal number; of course including one female member. Hey it worked for Avengers.

I think it's safe to assume that all of those characters will be in it because Feige mentioned all of them by name except Adam Warlock when talking about the possibility of a movie.

Yes, but the recent rumor also states that it is going to be set in a future version of the MCU. So it will borrow at least that aspect from the original team, and I am guessing a few other plot points and characters as well.

That "rumor" comes from Latino Review, who don't know jack**** about the GOTG. Their article about it is shot so full of holes it's pathetic. The GOTG that Feige is talking about exist in OUR universe, and OUR timeline, not the 31st century. There's going to be no time travel involved. Unless they include a cameo by the classic 31st century version, as in The Thanos Imperative storyline.

I agree with the lineup of:

Star-Lord
Adam Warlock
Gamora
Drax
Rocket Raccoon
Groot

The team definitely needs a woman. I've seen people put together these dream lineups with no woman and my eyes glaze over.

About six being the optimal number, you have to remember that that's to give a good amount of character development to everybody. There're a couple of members of the Guardians, though, who don't need much of any character development, and certainly not as much as characters like Thor, Captain America, or Iron Man, who have to be represented well as they carry their own movie franchises. Groot, for instance. All the guy is is a walking special effect who says "I am Groot." There's not a whole lot of time he needs devoted to him, unless the director wants to get into the nitty gritties of the different meanings he gets across with the way he inflects the words "I am Groot." So he can easily be discounted from that figure. And other characters can be worked in who don't require an equal amount of screen time but just sort of hang around, like Cosmo and Mantis. So my team would be...

Starlord (Requires screen time)
Adam Warlock (Requires screen time)
Gamora (Requires screen time)
Drax (Requires screen time)
Moondragon (Requires screen time)
Rocket Raccoon (Can make do with less screen time)
Groot (Can make do with less screen time)
Mantis (Can make do with less screen time)
Cosmo (Can make do with less screen time)

To be fair, Cosmo and Mantis could perform Nick Fury and Maria Hill type roles.

Star-Lord can just as easily offer a human perspective to the whole outing. Also, I think doing a GOTG to build up Thanos without Adam Warlock (his eternal rival) and Gamora (his adopted daughter) is kind of silly.

Yeah, that's my fear going this route. It would take away the uniqueness of Adam Warlock and Gamora.

Adam Warlock-a strategist supreme like Thanos w/emotional conflict.

Gamora-"The most dangerous woman in the Galaxy". Rise by Thanos.

Drax The Destroyer- who wouldn't want to see Chronos creating him to kill Thanos?

(I'm sure a lot of people can explain this better than I can)

If GOTG 1 is a success, then I'd definitely involve the 31st century GOTG in sequels. I'm not ruling them out, and I enjoy them, I just think this is the direction Marvel's heading in.

It'd be awesome to see a GoTG movie. I'm hoping it'll be with the modern team. Would everyone want to to see them have matching uniforms like in the comics or their own seperate suits? Star-Lord's got to have his helmet, its awesome! Can't wait to hear some definitive details about this, but I imagine it's probably still early for that.

I'm perfectly fine with the lineup of the modern books. I'm pretty excited about this as Annihilation made me a pretty big fan of the cosmic side of Marvel. Not sure how old Star-lord is supposed to be but I've always heard Gary Sinise's voice when I read his character. He comes off as a pretty hardened vet. I wouldn't object to the Fillion casting that was mentioned earlier, though. I'd accept that guy in just about anything. I really don't know who I'd cast as many of these characters. I mean I doubt I'm going to see Gary Sinise as Star-lord and Vin Diesel as Drax like I always heard them (the new version just screams Riddick/Kratos mash-up) so this leaves me very excited. :woot:

Star-Lord mentions that he's 32 in one issue, so Sinise is probably towards the old side.

Just thought I'd throw together this guide.

Star-Lord: 30s, average build, caucasian, light features.
Adam Warlock: 20s/30s, athletic build, undetermined race.
Gamora: 20s, athletic build, undetermined race.
Phyla: teens/20s, average build, caucasian, light features.
Drax: 40s/ 50s, Body Builder, Undetermined race as Drax (caucasian before transformation.)
Moondragon: 20s, average build, caucasian
Mantis: 30s, Slender / agile build, asian/ mixed race.
Rocket Raccoon: He is a Raccoon.
Groot: He is a Tree.
Bug: He is a man sized Bug.

Wow is that a lot younger than I was expecting. Really not sure who I'd cast who isn't a cliche by now then (Reynolds, Fillion, those type pop into mind and if it wasn't for Star Trek so would Pine) so I'm really thinking left field choices are in order here. This should be interesting.

Comic book rule; however old you think a character is, dock 10 years. Tony Stark recently said he was 35 in a comic.

Well, Marvel always shifts their lines every few years. The only constant really seems to be Magneto being an Holocaust survivor.

If Mantis and Moondragon are on this team, they need to wear their most revealing costumes, which happen to be their most classic versions, especially since it would easily fit with the alien and otherworldly theme. Why should they have to wear jumpsuits, which would probably be the most likely outfit?

I want to see these:

And both characters have been Avengers before as well.

You seem to think that about every female character Dark Raven. Sometimes comic books can do things movies shouldn't. To be honest, some of the costumes are on the nose even for comic books.

Yeah, for consumption by general audiences, fanboys have got to realize that the pornstar pinup look is not gonna fly in these movies (as much as I, too, would like that, though). If you wander around any Comic-Con and check out the cosplay, you might be forgiven for thinking that you might have accidentally stumbled into an adult film expo.

But in Star Trek they still have their green skinned Orion Slave Girls, even in the last movie. They look like they fell out of a harem. Mantis's look isn't that different to that.

I think they have two options with RR:

1. Make him a raccoon-like alien creature that is much bigger, with a humanoid body type.

2. Make him exactly like the comic: a raccoon that talks and wears clothes and kicks ass. If they go with this, he will have to be utterly realistic, better than anything we have seen before. It will literally have to blow Caesar out of the water. Then they have to figure out how to make a realistic raccoon talk and emote. If they pull it off, and they get the right actor, he very well could be a breakout character.

My two cents.

Its gonna take a lot of money to make this movie right. I have to say Im sort of surprised Marvel chose this property for 2014. Kind of curious who first pitched this idea. Pretty ballsy.

It was probably Marvel themselves that "pitched" the idea. And the reason it was chosen most likely has everything to do with introducing audiences to Thanos before Avengers 2 comes along.
