Which version of the Guardians of the Galaxy do you want to see on film?

Which version of the Guardians of the Galaxy would you prefer to see in a movie?

  • Original 30th Century Version (Major Victory, Yondu, Martinex, etc)

  • Modern Day Version (Starlord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon)

Sorry that makes no sense. Anyone else?

What part of this are you having trouble understanding....?

Thanos was teased as "the big bad" at the end of Avengers.

He is most likely going to be the central villain in Avengers 2.

Thanos is one of the most powerful villains in all of the Marvel Universe, and has an extensive backstory, which most likely means he needs to be introduced in at least one other movie before duking it out with the Avengers in Avengers 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a fantastic place to debut Thanos, since his story is intertwined with several of the major characters on that team, including Adam Warlock, Drax, and Gamora.

So Marvel wants to use GOTG to let audiences learn who Thanos is, how he became who he is, and just how powerful he really is. Then, they're going to put him in a room with the Avengers in Avengers 2 and watch the proverbial **** hit the fan.

Or if not a puppet, then a guy in a suit, just like Chewbacca or original Yoda, or how ALF was sometimes a guy in a suit when they showed him in full. It just looks more real than someone like Jar Jar Binks or later CGI Yoda. I'm sure they'll go the CGI route though.

I think a mash-up of the original 70's version of the Guardians along with their modern counterparts would work best. I caught up with the original story way back in Defenders #26, and I found the abridged version a compelling read. And I love the idea of setting the movie in the distant future with the potential for homages to the present time MCU.

The 70s team shares a lot of the same characteristics as the original on-screen X Men - there is a lead character who introduces the audience to this new universe in Vance Astro, most of the Guardians (Nikki, Charlie 27 and Martinex) have a common origin, and the team both shares a common residence and are lacking secret identities.

Like the original X-Men movie, I would start with a small initial team - Vance Astro along with the three mutated humans and perhaps a genetically modified raccoon. The initial group would then add allies and enemies from the current popular comic book run, and perhaps lose a member or two from the original team in dramatic fashion. Whatever path they choose, it should be a terrific film.

Yes,but the new GotG needs to lose the talking dog or otherwise it turns into a Saturday morning cartoon. They already have a talking Raccoon.:cwink:

to build up Thanos without Adam Warlock (his eternal rival) and Gamora (his adopted daughter) is kind of silly.

That's why I'm not excited for this movie and taking a 'wait-n-see' approach in how they goin' deal w/those two y mentioned.
:csad:

Doesn't Thanos and Drax have more history?

It's more like Thanos(&Gamora)--->Drax---->Warlock w/a little Captain Mar-vell & Moondragon on the side :word: :jedi

Should we have a GotG News & Spec thread now? Just askin' :-)

I asked for one last week, and the mods said they'd look into it. I guess they're waiting on OFFICIAL official confirmation, which we'll get at SDCC next week.

I would love it if the actress playing Mantis insists on wearing the sexy grass skirt and impossible bra outfit. Who should play Mantis?

I also hope whoever plays Moondragon agrees to shave her head.

Or she could wear a bald cap...

It never looks as convincing, especially if she has a lot of hair to hide under there. Michael Rosenbaum's bald cap in the Smallville finale didn't look as good as when he used to shave his head and you could see slight bumps or creases.

If Natalie Portman and Sigourney Weaver can do it, then so can this actress. :oldrazz:

And let's not forget Persis Khambatta as Ilia in Star Trek: The Slow Motion Picture. She looked fantastic with a bald head, and actually better than she normally did with hair.

I kind of want Rocket Racoon to be a puppet.

I hear Britney would be willing to shave her head.

I don't care who's on the team as long as the following people make cameos in the film.

Nova
Abigail Brand
Sydren
Carol Danvers
Pip the Troll
Nebula

Heck I would love in over a dozen Marvel cosmic characters make cameos.

That would be quite a clusterf**k of a film. Remember KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid!

People who read '08 GotG,have y ever read the original version and any of the 'ol Jim Starlin classics of Warlock/Thanos?

My profile quote comes from a Starlin Warlock book. Warlock is one of my favorite superheroes, but I recognize that a solo film starring him is unlikely. Besides, most of his supporting cast (Gamora, Magus, the Universal Church of Truth) wound up playing a huge part in the modern GOTG franchise.

Same with the Infinity Watch; 4/5 of the members (Well 4/6, but I like to pretend that big clod maximus never existed. HORRIBLE 90s style superhero) are members of the GOTG.

As for the original GOTG, I've only read them in their appearances in the Korvac saga. I don't dislike them, I just feel the modern take is a more dynamic and appealing team.

Makes sense, seeing as all this got out of hand with Latino Review's article. Pretty sure it will be Guardians but if not a lot of sites will be in trouble as confirming this news.

That would be Jolie or Demi Moore.

Moore is too old, Jolie is too well-known.

I want someone exotic and not so recognisable for Moondragon who will look as good as Persis Khambatta did as Ilia in Star Trek: The Motion Picture:

She looks really iconic and I dare say better with a shaven head than with her hair.

So Morena Baccarin then?

She could work, and although Whedon fans know her well, I don't think the rest of the world does. She certainly would be exotic enough and would have the right personality for a Celestial Madonna candidate.

Not sure why she didn't get the part as Maria Hill, but she could work as Moondragon as well.
