Just wondering, which villain do you think was portrayed the worst in any of the first three films?

Good thread and question, and should have another thread or poll for who do you think was the best too.

Hard for me to vote on the worst, because it's basically a tie between GG2 and Venom.

GG2 had a better overall storyline, and Harry had the best character development and growth in the franchise.

The only thing that takes him to the worse, and made him deserve better was the terrible costume which paid minimal tribute to the Goblin/his father.

Venom got very little screen time, we did not get the aspect that he could evade Peter's Spider-Sense, or that Venom was stronger than Spider-Man (feeding on Brock's hate), or minimal mind games, given that Brock knew Peter's secret identity.

He only used this to kidnap MJ. I would of loved to have seen more mind games and cover those other aspects.

So my vote goes to Venom.

For the best, if the poll was here, would be for Ock.

Green Goblin

He looked like a combination of a power ranger and jet jaguar. lol

Harry deserved better, costume wise. And if Venom hadn't been there crowding things and stealing his thunder, he might've gotten a better story as well.

New Goblin. He had a lame costume, flew around on a hoverboard, there was nothing "Goblin" like about him. After his build up in Spider-Man 1 and 2, his grand revenge scheme on Peter was nothing more than a temporary break up of him and MJ for the stupidest reason (MJ should have just TOLD Peter that Harry was forcing her instead of breaking his heart like that).

I'm going with Green Goblin. Yes, New Goblin's costume was awful but Harry had the great fight in the mansion. Its still my favorite fight scene in the trilogy. Green Goblin sang nursery rhymes, got trash thrown at him and had terrible dialog ("We'll meet again, Spider-Man!").

None of them. Ock, Norman and Harry were handled well. Venom's only necessary story is his origin, which is mostly the black suit saga, and Sandman was actually made into less of a stooge.

Let me put it this way, Octopus was the only one I liked.

Which was for the purpose (story wise) of pissing him off so he'd turn to his mistress; the suit. I will always believe we would have gotten a much better story without Venom.

GG w/o a doubt.... should never have been killed. Than again Gwen should have never been introduced in SM3. Go Figure...:(

All three villains in Spider-man 3 got shafted, but out of them all Venom is the one who got screwed over the most. Although Spidey 3 didn't do Harry justice,at least he had 2 previous films to build up his character and to see some of the emotions he went through. He still had a good bit of screentime in part 3. Sandman had a little buildup too, though not much. We got to see his powers,a bit of his family life and what kind of man he was. He got to fight Spider-man at least 3 times during the film.
But with Venom? We got next to nothing. The character himself is clearly Spider-man's most popular villain(and one of the most popular of all time),and he ranks in the "unholy trinity" of Spidey's greatest enemies(Goblin/Ock/Venom). Yet,Venom himself recieved only about 7-8 minutes of screentime, most of which was with Topher's face showing?! There was no explanation of why,or how he could block Spider-man's spider sense,or how he even knew about Spider-man,MJ or Sandman. Plus,Raimi and co. had him asking for Sandman's help in destroying Spider-man,which Venom wouldn't have done. Plus, there was no calling himself "we." I mean, that's a major characteristic of Venom, and they never used it! There was also no terrorizing Peter and MJ,or any of that. His voice while wearing the symbiote wasn't threatening or scary at all(it was just Topher). Being one of Spider-man's greatest enemies should've granted him a great fight scene against Spidey, but instead they fought for maybe,2 minutes and then to make sure he'll never return,Raimi's blows him up so completely that there's not even a corpse,or even a tiny piece of symbiote left.
I don't know if it was a combination of too many storylines and characters,or Raimi not liking him,or both. But,Venom deserved SO much better.

I would have to say Venom, hands down. The character received next to nothing in terms of development, very little screen time, awful dialogue, and a less than thrilling battle with Spidey at the end of SM3.

I actually agree, but I wanna vote so badly, so... Sandman! [?]

Harry was respected when used, very respected, so he shouldn't be used for the poll
I'd go with Norman, the dude does not have split-personality, the game based on that movie treated him soooo much better

Norman/GG deserved better, but I still loved him!

I think the villain who was portrayed the worst is definetly Venom!

Venom, totally wasted. Should have been set up in 3, used in 4.

GG got screwed in the looks department but chracter wise got a well represented.

GG2 got totally screwed but was already portrayed well to some extent by GG1.

Venom was just a screaming skinny monster. That's the character that was wasted the most.

I actually felt that movie Venom was an improvement over comics Venom, first by not making his suit identical to Spider-Man's (why would you wear the symbol of someone you hate?) and second by making him truly bad. I always hated them hopping back and forth, making him a hero one week and a villain the next. I also prefer his more modest physique over the black Hulk. Additionally, Peter faced Venom to the end instead of running from him, hiding from him and cutting deals with him. He exploited Venom's weakness without the need of high-tech Reed Richards gadgetry. And Venom didn't get center stage (I know many of you think he should have) so I was quite happy.
At the same time, I feel like the Harry conflict suffered from Venom's inclusion. Instead of the deep psychological conflict that Peter should have had over needing to stop Goblin Jr. but not wanting to hurt his friend, we see Peter embrace the dark side. Which made for a cool fight scene, but some potential was wasted there.

So he could, what, stalk him for 2 hours? Beat him up randomly for two hours? We got stalking, interference and random attacks from Harry in 3.

Read a comic, young man.

It wouldn't have been all about Venom,Chris. I've always felt it was more important to explore the person behind the mask(or symbiote,as it were). I would have loved to see more of who Eddie was and where he came from, maybe a bit about his family life. And then examine more about his downfall and how it truly corrupted him, even before he got the symbiote.
For example, since Eddie was played as Peter's doppleganger in Spider-man 3,one moment I've always wished they filmed would be having Eddie living in a run down apartment like Peter, struggling to get by,and also having a rent demanding landlord like Peter. The major difference is that Eddie's landlord is much tougher and doesn't care for Brock at all. So,when Brock gets fired and can't supply his rent, the landlord shows him no mercy and throws him out. He feels alone and needs help,so he tries to call his father, who declares him a disappointment and hangs up. Then he tries Gwen, but she tells him that she is not in love with him and that she has a date with Peter Parker. And,in a scene that I think was in the book,we see Eddie depressed and suicidal, getting drunk ta a bar and cursing Peter Parker. The anger inside him is building and his hatred of,not only Peter Parker, but society is slowly dominating his thinking. Then, once the symbiote gets a hold of him,Brock's mind tranforms into a monster,a killer. Then once that happens we get to see some of the mind games he plays on Parker, and threatening MJ;etc, etc.
But the buildup to Venom is what's most important and Raimi and co. really screwed over the character on that as well, not just after he gets the symbiote.
