Soon the final hobbit movie will come out and I for one am not looking forward to that being the end for middle earth on the big screen. I want to seem morgoth dammit!

Anyway, who would you want to replace lovably Ol pj because as much as I love him he REALLY sounds like he doesn't want to do any more.

Blast, forgot to include an other option on the poll! Oh well

There aren't going to be anymore for a while, so it is kind of a moot point.

The Tolkien Estate won't allow anymore of their properties made into movies. Christopher Tolkein hates all of the films.

"They eviscerated the book by making it an action movie for young people aged 15 to 25," Christopher says regretfully. "And it seems that The Hobbit will be the same kind of film."

"Tolkien has become a monster, devoured by his own popularity and absorbed into the absurdity of our time," Christopher Tolkien observes sadly. "The chasm between the beauty and seriousness of the work, and what it has become, has overwhelmed me. The commercialization has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing. There is only one solution for me: to turn my head away."

If they can't film more of Tolkien's works, the unofficial sequel to Lord of the Rings by Russian author Nick Perumov might be a possibility?

Кольцо Тьмы (Ring of Darkness)
This fantasy novel takes place in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, 300 years after the War of the Ring. The books tell the story of hobbit Folko Brandybuck, the heir of Meriadoc, and his two dwarven friends, who are trying to protect Middle-earth from a new danger: powerful Olmer, the leader of the Eastern nations, who is gathering the remainder of the nine Nazgûl's Rings of Power. The original duology was later followed with the third book, Адамант Хенны (The Adamant of Henna).

  1. Эльфийский Клинок (Elven Blade, 1993)
  2. Черное Копье (Black Lance, 1993)
  3. Адамант Хенны (The Adamant of Henna, 1995)

But I'm not sure how popular these books are in America for example. But they are quite popular in Europe, I think.

How is that even legal to use middle-earth without having any sort of rights issues.

Russia had loose publishing laws back I n 1993, and the books were never published outside of Russia and Eastern Europe.

Sadly, there won't be any more Middle Earth movies, the estate won't allow it. Maybe someday someone else will remake the LotR or The Hobbit but that won't be for decades. This last Hobbit movie is the last new one in our lifetimes.

They had a great run and Peter Jackson was perfect for them for me but the major stories have already been told. I don't expect any more myself.

They're probably going to reboot The Lord Of The Rings trilogy and The Hobbit series, and they're going to set it in modern day.

It should be interesting 2 see what Peter Jackson does next. He should do a Sci-Fi series

Yeah I've been waiting on a new Tintin. I really liked the first one.

Yeah I liked tintin too.

Still, I really do want to see the silmarillion on screen

Other than Fellowship of the Ring I've found most of these to be boring or mediocre.

I'm sure they could find someone better.

Middle-Earth with Michael Fassbender and Liam Cunningham...would be a beautiful place.

I agree this thread should be closed, there will be no new director since there will be no more Tolkien movies again our lifetimes. There is already a Hobbit and also a Lord Of Rings threads for this type of discussion.

This is very interesting. I would love to read this trilogy. I don't think they've ever been translated into English for North American distribution though, which is unfortunate. Although doing so might violate international copyright laws outside of Russia. That being said, I don't know if an internatonal film adaptation would violate the copyright laws as well. Still, very interesting tidbit of information.
