For me, Jessie as Mark Zuckerberg in the Social Network was a FAR better Lex Luthor than Jessie in BvS.

I expected cold and calculating, i got the Riddler with fancy hair instead.

I dont know if he was acting or just having spasms and synder kept it going.

These are all good actors, with good range, but they can only act what they're given.

Nah his line delivery and look as well in real life and the video footage at the end just dont scream flash. Grant Gustin is an ace card WB failed to play with a built in fanbase thats growing every week.

Well we should wait for his film to fully judge him, i mean we can't compare a few seconds of footage too 2 seasons of a TV show.

Can you give us your reasons? I'll start by countering your choices:

Amy Adams as Lois Lane: 5 times Academy Award nominee who chased the role because she loves the character of Lois Lane. Beautiful, acclaimed actress who's frankly slumming it out of love for the character.

Laurence Fishburne as Perry White: the only thing wrong with his casting is that he hasn't been given enough to do, but what he has done is fantastic. He effortlessly fuses 'big editor toughness' with humanity and compassion.

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor: underrated performance.

Ezra Miller as Barry Allen: seriously WHAT?! He absolutely killed it in his short scenes. His enthusiasm for the role is a joy to behold.

Diane Lane as Martha Kent: I agree with you on this one. At the age of 52 she is far too young to be cast as Martha, and the ageing-up makeup looks fake and horrible. But that's Hollywood for you!

But even though I think the cast is about as perfect as it can get I can't think of any superhero film where everyone likes the casting lol. I can see where Jess Lex won't be to everyone's likings but I liked it. Was worried I wouldn't based on some harsh reviews I read but was supposed it was to my liking.

But seriously, maybe Eisenberg but he was still tons better than any movie Luthor we've seen. No Clancy Brown but better than Kevin Spacy or Gene Hackman. That could be I just hated the character from those films though.This guy, while still not the classic Lex I love, was superior to those versions.

While I've been vocal about not being keen on this portrayal of Lex, I actually don't think Jesse was miscast. I would say the direction they went with was just too quirky. As I pointed out a few times in the past, he could have played this more like Zuckerberg and it would have worked. That's what they said they were inspired by, but that's not what we ended up with. Should have had a more serious Lex with some confidence. That's what made Rosenbaum work so well, and you'll notice the majority of Superman fans loving the TAS corporate Lex. Jesse was capable of doing so, but they didn't have him do that. Same thing happened to Spacey to some extent. We see him more of the fans interpretation of Lex on HOC than we got from SR

I would say most of the cast. The reason I post so rarely in here is precisely because I do not like most of the cast they have assembled. I have yet to watch BvS, so I'll focus my grievances on MoS. I will make the disclaimer that although I disliked the performances, blame could be shared with the director:

Performances I did not like:

1. Amy Adams as Lois Lane: She is not nearly as spunky as she needed to be. In fact, she was mostly bland, which Lois Lane should never, ever come close of being.

2. Lawrence Fishburne as Perry White: there's not nearly enough energy on his performance. Frank Langella's similarly unimportant role in Superman Returns reminded me much more of comics' Perry.


Castings that leave me mildly apprehensive:

1. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman: she is more of a model than an actress. Nevertheless, I have read good stuff about her in BvS, so I may be wrong.

2. Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth: I love Irons, I do. But there's this underlining of cunning and deviousness to every performance of his that I do not see fitting Alfred well. Alfred is all about compassion and unconditional love and support, and I would rather have someone loveable for that.

3. Jared Leto as The Joker: I think he looks too young, especially when compared to Affleck's seasoned Batman. Besides, I am still not over that awful look with the tattoos.


Castings that leave me very apprehensive:

1. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor: I will be the first to acknowledge that there have been many versions of Luthor out there. That being said, the one I prefer is the seasoned, calculating, sophisticated politician/businessman, which Eisenberg does not fit at all.

2. Jason Momoa as Aquaman: Again, Arthur/Orin has seen numerous interpretations. I do think he should always be regal and kingly, though, and Momoa has yet to convince me he can pull off anything more than brutishness.

3. Ezra Miller as The Flash: The Flash is all about charm, and Miller is this giant charisma black hole. He is downright sinister in every single performance I have seen of him, which does not fit Barry at all.

Castings that I do enjoy greatly/am looking forward to:

Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent (though written horribly in MoS)
Russell Crowe as Jor-El
Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne

Grant Gustin couldn't share the screen with Affeck and co. He's a solid television actor. Nothing more. And before people start mentioning shows like Breaking Bad or True Detective or something. Acting in CW shows isn't the same as some of the high caliber stuff we get on those high end shows.

Is this a definitive statement that all CW actors couldn't act on high-caliber, award-winning TVshows? Because this is not true at all, since Jimmy Sheridan (Arrow's Robert Queen) and Navid Negahban (Arrow's Al-Owal) both play major roles on Homeland and had no problem acting on the CW. Does it stand to reason that some CW actors can't act that well? Yes. But dismissing anyone who acts on the CW is not the way to go.

Now this is a very articulate argument. Anyway, isn't that the fault of the suit instead of Gustin's?

Please don't take this as just a defense of Gustin's inclusion on DC's movie slate. It's not, since I don't even keep up with his show (though I would rather have him than Miller). I just think this was not a strong argument against his casting.
