Ah...I love puns.
Anyways, so there has been some bickering lately here on the Hype over who the best action figure poser is. Spideyboy, by default, is claiming to be the champ. Well, I think it's time to truly decide. There have been some conversations over how to decide, the criteria, which characters, etc. So I've been thinking about it. Now, I'm just thinking outloud here, so I'm not laying out rules or anything. Feel free to add in your own thing, maybe we can get some sort of consensus over how it should all be decided. But here's how I think it should work:
1. Contestants will be on a volunteer/sign up basis.
2. Contestants do not have to but are encouraged to have a thread dedicated to their poses, like a portfolio. It may help in the case of a tie. Some people are already doing this.
3. Since not everyone has the same figures, or the same amount, there obviously will have to be different divisions. Perhaps just a misc. figure division featuring any figures from any lines (ninja turtles, hellboy, transformers, etc), or a Spider-Man division, X-Men Division, DC Division, etc etc. But there probably shouldn't be too many; just divisions that represent the majority of action figures out there. I would think something like Spider-Man, avengers, x-men, DC, LCBH, 4" scale (GI Joe, Star Wars, etc), etc etc etc. I would say there shouldn't be more than 4 or 5 divisions. Maybe even a division using photoshop effects.
4. I think the winners would be decided on a 1 VS 1 match. For instance, Spideyboy and I could square off in a Spider-Man pose down. There could be different conditions, like "Spider-Man fighting a villain", "Spider-Man web swinging", or "Misc. Spider-Man Pose". Other conditions could be the amount of pictures or just other things that would be a challenge. The winner would be decided by a vote of appointed people who are selected by an appointed people-picker. The appointed people to vote should remain anonymous when it comes to the vote and the voters should be changed if possible. No one ever knows who voted except the appointed people-picker.
----We could even bring in guest judges to vote for really special matches.
5. Should there be voting criteria? Maybe. Or it could just be up to whoever votes and what they like best. It might be better to keep it simple and keep it to a person's preference. It might also be better to have critera, like creativity, anatomical correctness, etc etc.
6. The matches could occur once a week, once a month, whatever. Sometimes it does take people a bit longer to get a pose together. I know that it may take me a few hours in a single night to crank out stuff that I feel is quality work. It used to take me weeks to get my shelves sorted out and the way I like them. People should be allowed time, unless it's a condition of a challenge to crank something out quickly. (perhaps to create a picture using randomly selected figures unknown to anyone else within an hour. The challenge would be known days before hand to clear up time to do it, but the picture would have to be posted within an hour. Just an idea. Or, to make it easier, both challengers give a list of figures they own and a few are selected off of that to do a specific pose)
7. While I realize that not everyone has the same props, the same sets, the same amount of space, the same figures, the challenges would have to address that. The challenges could be given a week ahead of time. So, if there is a problem with using props or whatever, it can be brought up to whoever the people-picker is who I think would also be a judge of those sort of issues. If there are a lot of issues, a division could be created that is soley for more elaborate poses with sets, props, etc.
8. That's all I got, but I think we could have people floating around here toting "2007's Biggest Poser in the Spider-Man Division". It'd be cool.
