I'm not an expert on comedy directors, or directors in general, but how about some people Rudd or Douglas have worked with before?

*Jon Turtletaub --- National Treasure, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Cool Runnings, and Last Vegas (which starred Michael Douglas). Turtletaub is a veteran Disney go-to guy.

*David Wain --- Role Models (which starred Rudd), and a lot of Adult Swim/Cartoon Network fare, including Children's Hospital, Tim and Eric, Mad TV, and The State.

*Jay Roach --- Dinner for Schmucks (starred Rudd), The Focker series, the Sacha Baron Cohen films. Dude knows comedy, and quirk.

*Judd Apatow, or Seth Rogen --- Rudd is a long-term member of the Apatow/Rogen Brat Pack. Putting one (or both) in charge or Rudd as a superhero called "Ant-Man" seems like....I dunno, destiny. Plus, Apatow is currently directing a fittingly named movie right now called "Trainwreck."

Who reads scripts these days? Scripts are made to be doctored and rewritten. (And god knows this one has been doctored and rewritten umpteen times since 2006.)

What these guys are passing on has to be concept, filming schedule, pay, or a combination of the three.

Well, a combination of the script and schedule could still mean the script is a problem. They could be turning it down because there's no time to rewrite it. But I do agree that there's no specific reason to think the script is the motivating factor. We just don't know.

Apatow RT'd something about Wright and Ant-Man this morning and about how anyone who gets the gig will be nothing in comparison to Wright. DOubt he wants it.

I think this is a case of a guy like Wright, who is so loved within the industry by peers for being one of the more adventurous and creative directors, that his peers don't want to take on what he's storyboarded and fail in comparison. It's a tall order.

Out of those, Barry Sonnenfeld strikes me as the best because he actually mixes humor with action in his movies. But I'm agreeing it's unlikely.

Jay Roach did the Austin Powers trilogy so he has experience with action/adventure comedy and even the groovy '60s spy movie vibes and Michael Caine in the third one makes me think The Italian Job(original)Heist movies. Right now Jon Turtletaub doesn't seem to be doing much and he has that Disney connection/relationship.

Those four have all done stuff that are Action/Comedy/Heist/Spy flick. Dennis Dugan stands out but maybe because first thing I think when I see the name is "Dum Dum" haha.

Oh I know that. Like I said, it won't be anyone who can probably get their own movie greenlit these days. It will be someone with probably an action pedigree. But if the tone of this movie is supposed to be like Wright's other films, then you need someone who has also done some comedy.

Maybe Favreau again? Despite what happened on IM2, he still seems to have a good relationship with Marvel.

As long as we are talking about dipping into the Marvel pool .
I would like Branagh to take a shot at it .
I know he is not a comedy director , but he is my choice from the ranks of past Marvel directors .

I'll throw it in again, Martin McDonagh director of "In Bruges" and "Seven Psychopaths". Why him? He has strong theater background, he wrote and directed two awesome and critically acclaimed movies. He even has that british film school vibe Edgar Wright has, very same british humor, even slightly darker, not to mention that he can deliver a lot of drama, character develompent, quality storytelling and stunning cinematography. And he is that fresh blood Marvel is always looking for.
