Why all the hate for "Die Another Day"?

Then why post here?

How is DAD good? Please tell me.
It was not good, otherwise there'd be no thread. Madonna's song sucked, Madonna herself sucked in that cameo, the innuendo was painfully obvious & absurd and many of the non-innuendo jokes fell flat and, on top of that, the character's were just too blunt and obvious with their disdain of one another.

I think you only have to look at any other James Bond film (well....any decent one) to see why and how badly DAD fails.

I said Die Another Day was a good film. Not a good Bond film. And It's really hard to compare the movies when one has only seen a few:(

DAD could have been of of the best bond movie. I liked the beginning. It was much more realistic and dark than Brosnan previous bond. Then, there was the invisible car ( why ), the Graves / Moon thing and finally the bad CGI with the moronic wave shot... what's a pity.

Couldve done without Jinx and theres some terrible dialogue that the actors seem to try too hard to deliver in a cool way i.e, the "Big bang theory" line and the "I think I got the thrust of it" one too.

>shudder<

Well when it was first released, I liked this movie a lot. I caught it on TV a few weeks back and I'm seeing what many of you in this thread see. The CGI is bad, I hate Jinx (although I had since the beginning), the scripts pretty weak and so on. I still think Pierce was great and Q was still, imo, very good. The title song is awful, something else I believed from the beginning, and the torture scenes are well done.

Late but never too late.

I think it is bad because it had so much potential. It was the 20TH BOND MOVIE ON THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY and it had Brosnan who imo is a very good Bond. It has a great pre-title sequence and the titles themselves played into the story and was done VERY WELL and showed Bond being tortured which was brilliant twist imo (besides the terrible Madonna song).

Then he is freed after 18 months and looks completely ruined. But he breaks free of a government that has lost faith in him again (which is what Brosnan was doing best in Goldeneye) and manipulates the Chinese government to help him. He then beds Halle Berry just for the **** of it (that should have been the extent of her role as a nactress in this anyway) and then breaks into a facility using charisma and skill. It was awesome.

Then we reach London. The swordfight was campy but very enjoyable and well done so I was ready to forgive the campy tone and Bond having to work for his government that won't acknowledge him as even a secret agent was cool and I enjoy the invisible car (laugh if you want, but all of Bond's gadgets when made were sci-fi. They just come to reality, though this I'm not so sure).

THEN IT ALL GOES WRONG. While Miranda Frost was hot and his seduction of her entertaining it was too obvious she was evil and she was too two-demensional. Halle Berry becomes the most annoying Bond girl of all time. The villains lose all their menace and become jokes. The laser scenes were annoying and cheesy. His race to escape was too campy, the glacier surfing was when I realized it was ruined as it looked terribly fake and stupid.

Then we have the cool invisible car fight, but after that it reaches all new lows not seen since A View to a Kill. That includes terrible one on ones that look like TV movies. Annoying Bond girls fighting each other to the death. Bad CGI electricity. A terrible Bond villain death. A most annoying Michael Madsen NSA head who was nausea inducing and the final scene which literally caused every single person in the audience to cringe.

It ends as one of the worst Bond movies when it began as one of the best. I suppose it is just a teribly ackward bad Bond movie but it could have been a good one and started as possibly a great one.

That is why I dislike it but still don't mind watching the first half hour or so on TV if I'm bored at the time though.

It had a lot of potential, but it was ruined by arrogant people (Tamahori, Berry, Madonna) who thought they were too good for the franchise and the character. And it was ruined very early on. So many things just didn't make sense. James Bond most of the time behaves like an amateur, so is MI6! I really disliked the swordfight, which was overlong and incredibly stupid: they practically destroy the whole club and nobody bothers! ANd the invisible car is the dumbest gadget ever!

I agree it starts going wrong with the sword fight but it was enjoyable and if it was the only moment like that in the movie it oculd be shrugged off as comic relief. But it just KEPT GETTING WORSE as it progressed until it reached lows not seen in any Bond movie save for A View to a Kill, Diamonds Are Forever, and Moonraker.

Alas.

I think it actually surpassed all three of those for sure craptitude.

Did I forget to mention that DAD was even worse than "You Only Live Twice"?

Nah there is some redeemable value in the first half and Brosnan is a better Bond than Moore so that ranks him above Moonraker and A View to a Kill IMO. And I think the villain is a little better than DAF as is the Cuban scenes so it....barely skids past that.

But no, I find it hard to call it better than YOLT....if only because Bond gets to do a few seconds of spywork in Cuba but I'd say they are pretty even though.

It started going wrong with Bond escaping MI6 I think! Even before, with the slow motion bullet during the gunbarrels equence, you could tell something was goign wrong. And the DNA surgery clinic was quite absurd too. All in all, I think DAD is probably the worst Bond movie, bare none. And I am a big fan of Brosnan as Bond!

Fair enogugh. I'm not going to defend this movie. But there are a few things here and there (in the first 45 minutes) that have me rank it a bit higher than A View to a Kill, Moonraker, Octopussy, The Man with the Golden Gun, YOLT and DAF.

Okay maybe not YOLT....blast.

I think we all agree it is crap though.
