Why are cops such pricks?

Why are some cops so unwilling to make the whole process of getting pulled over as easy as possible? Most I've encountered just make a tense situation more tense.

Because they get off on it. Having the authority to make the situation as stressful as possible. At least that's the way i see it.

How did Ice-man not start this?

If you're a huge prick, you're drawn to being a cop, as it gives you the power to be a huge prick and get paid for it.

And the pricks you run into on the road, don't help with your attitude.

ive experienced both good and bad cops.

bad cops where they were near yelling at me when literally i had not anything to provoke them, giving me two tickets for pretty much the same thing.

and nice to the point where they pull me over, im obviously faded and scared but they let me go with warning and a drive safely.

The guy who pulled me over wouldn't even tell me what I did until he printed the ticket.

Perhaps it wasn't something so ******edly obvious he didn't want to waste his time.

I find that most people who think cops are pricks, are pricks themselves.
I'm fully aware not all cops are good people, but I mean the people that go around and complain about cops.

Same thing happened to me 2-3 years back. When I rolled my window down, I asked what I did. He ignored it and asked for my license. Again I asked, and again he ignored it and asked for my registration. As he was walking away, I got fed up, and I demanded he tell me what I did. Apparently my registration had expired (the sticker on my license plate was old).

Prick gave me a ticket but the judge let me off since I had proof that it was the state's fault, since my registration expired and was not given a warning.

The cop who pulled me over said I didn't put my blinker on, but I did, albeit somewhat late. Point is, I put my blinker on. I just don't know how to prove something like that.

Ugh. This is just your word vs. his, so it's tough. My advice, if you go to court, is tell to truth, but mention that you're a college student. Judges are usually sympathetic to college students (they understand how it is). The main thing is you DON'T want this to go on your record cause insurance will raise your premium. So tell the judge that you are willing to pay the fine but don't want this to go on your record. If you have a good driving record the judge will usually lower the fine (by half) and keep it off the record.

Insurance companies are your enemy right now.

just do what Superman4ever said, keep going to court, keep challenging it, Cops really do hate going to court, and judges hate having to do stupid trials, it will either get thrown out or dismissed because the Cop didnt turn up

There's good and bad, in my case a bad cop gave me a ticket, and a good cop (his boss and a family friend) "took care of it":hehe:

I have a bunch of friends who are lawyers (shock, right?). I might just pay someone to take of this. Can't deal with this ******** right now.

You're planning to go to law aren't you?

I say keep your money (cause if you lose you have to pay the court fees, don't you?) It'll only take an hour or two of your time and you have like a month to prepare. Study the law in your state about your infraction and request the court house to give you the officer's notes (it's public record and your right), if there are any. Remember to mention you're a college student (judges LOVE college students, trust me on this one!) "Your honor, I was driving home from the library..." Tell them you don't mind the fine as long as it doesn't go on your record. That's it.

Actually, how much is the fine? If you don't mind me asking.

The ticket doesn't specify the fine amount. I don't think tickets ever do, do they? I'm going to plead not guilty and get a court date. You don't need to pay for the court date.

BTW, I'm getting into medicine, which is why I don't want to deal with this crap. I hate lawyers. :cwink:

Sweet on the medicine! I'm almost done with year one (finals are in 3 weeks, except for clinical med, which is in 2 weeks, but that doesn't count...it's easy) and I admit that it's been challenging, but the funnest and most satisfying year of my life so far. However, I have such a passion for the material that it really isn't work for me. I absolutely love it!

So have you taken the MCAT? If you need any advice or anything please feel free to PM me. I'm on the student advisory board, so I know what it usually takes to get in. ;) I've advised a LOT of students. My sister and 2 of her friends just got in, so I like to think that I know what I'm doing. :)

I don't know why I'm so giddy about this. :(

About the ticket: I don't know about where you live and it's been 3 years, thank goodness, since I've gotten a ticket, but here in Michigan the fine is on the back of the ticket, with the corresponding point value.

So it's kind of like, "I sort of hit this kid, I mean, I barely hit him with my back bumper."
