Alright, I wanted to tell this story and get some opinions on it. This happened a few weeks ago, but I happened to think about it today and it really pissed me off.

Anyway here's the story....

I live in Chicago, so our winters are really really really cold. And we have some homeless cats that roam the neighborhood. So to make it easier on them, my neighbor from a few houses down puts up a few warming houses for them. Nothing big, just some cardboard boxes with blankets and some dishes of water so they survive the winter.

Anyway, a new couple moved into the house next to my neighbor. The husband goes to work and the wife works out of the house. In just a few days, the wife noticed the cats that roam the neighborhood and the fact that they go to the warming houses next door. For some reason this angers her, so she calls the cops. The cops come, tell my neighbor to take away the warming houses. She does. A day or two later she puts them back out. And again, the wife calls the cops. The cops come, tell my neighbor to take away the warming houses. Again, she takes them away. A few days later my neighbor puts them back out. This time, the wife calls Animal Control. Animal Control comes out and goes to my neighbors house. He tells her to take away the warming houses. She says that she's been doing this for the cats for over 20 years and it's bothering nobody, so why should she stop?

The Animal Control guy reaches into the warming house and pulls out a kitten.
He then snaps it's neck with his bare hands and whips it to the ground. He says if she keeps the warming houses out, they're gonna come back and kill all these cats. He leaves.

Now, I'm more of a dog person then a cat person, hell I'm allergic to cats. But this still pisses me off to no end. And to pick up something so innocent and just kill it with your bare hands makes me furious.

What do you guys think of this? What would've you done?

Interesting...I didn't know they used such...deliberate methods.

First thing I'd do is call the cops on the first "nuisance" thing the neighbors did. And I mean "anything".

What could you do really? The snapping of the neck isn't something one would really anticipate, is it?

Can Animal Control even do that? I mean it doesn't sound like the cats weredirectly bothering the neighbor.

o sweet mary christ. was not expecting that.

****ing ***holes

i agree. call peta. i dont like peta but they will kick those peoples collective @$$E$

I....that....there are no words to describe how angry that makes me feel...That poor defensless little kitten....

The Animal Control officer who did that needs to be reported to the city, preferably the mayor's office with a threat to contact the media. Hell, contact the media anyway. His behavior is absolutely unacceptable and he should suffer the consequences of his actions. Unfortunately, his immediate superiors may not do anything about it unless they are absolutely forced to, thus contacting they mayor's office and/or the media. This is the sort of thing an investigative reporter at a local television station lives for.

Called the police. Do you know where stray cats and dogs roam free? Third World countries. Civilzed lands cannot do anything that associates with third world countries if they want to remain civil, and fed, and with a life expectancy of 75 years. And that's the way life goes.

that's horrible. call peta & the police and report that guy. isn't that completely against animal control? or call the humane society. i'm sure they can take the cats.

whats next??!!
A few teenagers were at a public park recently, having a BBQ with lots of people around. They somehow stun a duck/goose, grab it, attempt to break its neck, fail, then cut the thing open ALIVE, pulled out its EGGS, and threw them at people, laughing the whole time.

They're facing federal charges atm.

What? Report him to the city, ASAP. Call your local station, ASAP. Call PETA, they'll set this guy straight. Like throw-road-kill-on-his-next-dinner-outing straight.

Call the ASPCA, animal control, and/or the news, but leave PETA out of it. PETA is full of people that have the wrong ideas of how to do things, PETA needs to die.
