Why Are Dentists Evil?

It probably happens more often than you think - both dentists and doctors are not infallible. They just make educated guesses as to what's happening to you and it's up to you to judge if it's reasonable. I have an advantage since I have a biology background, but I think it would be helpful if everyone had some basic knowledge about how their body works.

The lady doing my cleaning today was very smart. Although she kept yammering on and explained to me how anaerobic bacteria produce acid that eat away at the tooth and multiply and that the device she was using employed aeration and high pitched frequencies to destory bacteria. I just finally told her I have had micro/chem/bio/yadayada and she shut up trying to explain things to me.

We all have lost loved ones and I do apologize if I offended him. Lost my uncle the other day from a heart attack but I understand that when I scare someone and they say "You gave me a heart attack!" I know that it was in jest or gest or however you spell it.

But, it was hard to eat today and you should have seen me trying to order at the drive through afterwards with my entire right side of my face numb from anesthetic The lady couldn't understand what I was saying

Just wanted to add, if the situation isn't dire and there's a lot of money (or bodily integrity) on the line, it's always a good idea to get a second opinion regarding anything medically-related. Different doctors and dentists have differing philosophies about treatment. Some dentists are more conservative with crowns and root canals than others. Like, some will try to use root canals and crowns as preventative measures, to get the tooth fitted before it cracks or decays too far. Which would be a good thing, if such treatments were cheap and guaranteed to last forever. But they are pretty expensive and have a finite shelf life. Root canals and crowns can also fail.

So other dentists have a more of a "wait and see" philosophy, waiting until the tooth is really far gone (like, if more than half is filling) or if you're already experiencing pain, before putting those treatments on the table. It's really up to you, and what you believe in. Obviously, since they're expensive and aren't guaranteed for life, I'd prefer delaying both as long as possible...

Why are Dentists evil? I don't know, but what i do know is that whenever I tell them to go easy, they press down hard, causing a ton of blood.

I once had a dream that my dentist had his back to me and said:

Don't worry you won't feel a thing.

Then he turned towards me with a blow torch. I have heard you never die in dreams but after he turned around everything went white and I woke up in a sweat. Man that dream was intense! I am just glad the dream dentist looked nothing like my real dentist.

The dentist I go to is freakin' awesome. Plus he reads comics. I take good care of my teeth and rarely ever get cavities so I generally don't have to go through a lot of stuff most people go through.

I would hate being a dentist though because some of the people I have seen in his office I don't even want to look at them let alone stick my hands in their mouth.

But a dentist does have a creepy vibe. With all the drilling, teeth pulling, and pain infliction.

I've had horrific pain from one root canal from my old dentist. I was literally writhing in bed an hour after, knocked myself out with co-codamol in the end (which I'm very sensitive too). And the time before that, I was so numb all over my face, that I couldn't even suck soup through a straw let alone go to work.

Then a few months later I got little to no pain from 1 root canal (same tooth) and 5 fillings over 3 ssessions with my new Dentist. My face was a little numb but I was able to go back to work straight after basically (I work in telesales so without being able to speak I'm useless ).

Now I'm not an expert, and maybe it's just because the first time round my nerves where more raw or exposed or whatever...

But I'm inclined to think my old dentist was a bit ****

Last time I went, the woman for some reason grabbed a hold of my tongue and moved it right and left. It was um, nice in a weird way.

When I was little – 6 or 7 I think – I saw the horror movie The Dentist. One of the worst things I’ve ever done. Now I’m absolutely terrified of and sickened by everything to do with the dental practice. I’ve only ever been to the dentist when I really needed it, and have spent countless amounts of money and hours doing everything I can on my own to maintain healthy teeth and gums in an effort to avoid going to see a dentist. It’s really almost an obsession, lol.

Unfortunately, I need my wisdom teeth removed (naturally, the teeth pulling scene from The Dentist is the image I always see in my head) and I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to work up the courage to schedule an appointment. I have yet to find my balls, however.

I don't hate dentists, but I also don't have regular trips to see my dentist because I have serious sinus problem, which makes it hard for me to breath through my nostrils. Having to breath through my mouth while the dentist is working on my teeth is no fun at all; once I choked when water was flooding into my mouth while I tried to take a deep breathe.

But I'll have to make a schedule sometimes this year, since it's been more than a year since I got my teeth cleaned.

I hate the dentist and as such haven't been to one in years, it's always a very painful experience. Also the flouride treatment always makes me one very small step away from puking. My girlfriend made an appointment for us in about a month, I'm dreading it.
