How come psychopaths like Bullseye, Green Goblin, Scarecrow, etc are allowed to join the Initiative?

same reason tyrants and would be megalomaniacs are allowed in the Illuminati.
people like to keep similar company

They aren't part of the Initiative. The Thunderbolts are a US government program thats' apart from SHIELD's Initiative. Marvel managed to remember that the US govt. in the MU has always been distrustful of outside agencies and prone to be manipulative SOB's. We've already seen conflict a few times between the Thunderbolts and Stark and they've stated how they're different agencies. Stark managed to make them back down because he has connections with the President; otherwise, it's more than likely that the Thunderbolts have more pull than SHIELD or the Initiative since they answer to the US govt. directly.

The Initiative isn't "SHIELD's Initiative." It's run by the Commission on Superhuman Activities.

I haven't been reading Thunderbolts, but I thought they were an experiment that the CSA basically grouped with the Initiative as one of the official Initiative teams for a state. Colorado, maybe? But I haven't been reading their comic so I don't know for sure.

Scarecrow is part of the Initiative and he is a child killer.

Ok, my bad. I think I automatically filled in the Scarecrow name with someone else since the first 2 names were from people in the Thunderbolts. Still, it doesn't surprise me since we saw that there's a "shadow" Initiative in operation. Where did you see him?

He was on cover of Initiative# 1.

Anti-discrimination laws. Some liberals got them slipped in as a line item in the SHRA... it's now illegals to discriminate against people just because they are psychopaths.

That's a bit absurd, even for comics. Maybe there's a mental health/rehabilitation division of the Initiative or something...

They've got nanotech in their bloodstream, keeping them on a leash 24/7. When the government has capabilities like that, who cares what the mental stability of the agents is? The CSA wants their powers, not their personalities.

And that's why things like the Armory/MVP incident in A:TI happen. The government always believes it has a tighter leash on dangerous people than it really does. I'd be surprised if Norman hasn't already figured out a way around the nanites.

Well, Tony has, but that was to be expected.

Tony knows how to do everything. I'm sure he could do brain surgery while discovering a new isotope that cures cancer and figuring out what dark matter is. :o

yeah and what happens if say the Mad Thinker creates a computer virus that allows him to control the nano probes? He would have an instant super villain army. Plus if Scarecrow gets off his leash, there are going to be some dead children laying around soon. This is a really stupid thing for the government to do.

What is it with you and the Scarecrow being a child killer? You mention it in pretty much every post.

Well because it is very bizzare and somewhat distrubing that character like that is presented as a hero in any sort manner.

Magneto killed people as a terrorist but he wound up becoming a hero at one point. It's not like it's anything new.

Well, he didn't kill children. In fact, it was the shock of thinking he had killed 13-year-old Kitty Pryde that started him on the path of reconsidering his actions.

Besides, people who kill for a political agenda are better than people who kill for fun (KIDDING!!!).

Whatever, 13 or 30, killing a person is still killing a person. People just feel worse for kids because they're viewed as "more innocent" somehow.

It may also be an instinctive thing, from long, long ago. Y'know, protect the young so the species doesn't die out. Of course we're not totally ruled by our instincts, and the real world has this population boom going on, but that's the sort of thing that lurks in you subconscious. I think I remember reading somewhere that that's why most people get upset at the sounds of babies or children in distress. (No, not just because it's a gawd-awful noise :yay:.)

Dude it was baby, that's just really wrong. Babies are more innocent then anyone. besides he has done other stuff, liking making a "house out of people" once. GR broke every bone in his body for that one. This guy should not part of any government program.

Besides I could have made a "dead nuns" coment, considering Bullseye once killed bunch of nuns, I just didn't think of it till now.

The truth about Marvel's U.S. Government is they have always been more patient with super-villains than they often are with superheroes. Routinely, and for at least twenty years, any villain who was offered to "work for the government/military/black ops/etc." in order to work off any sentence or crime, whether theft or even murders, has usually been rubber stamped without much resistance. Examples include the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (back when they called themselves that; Mystique, Blob, Pyro, Avalanche, Destiny, and they'd only attempted to ASSASSINATE A SENATOR among their various offenses, both seperate and collective), Puppet Master (who has gone on to become a serial killer/white slaver), Eddie Brock/Venom (whose murders include security officers and even a cop or two), and likely others I have forgotten. They also have created a good score of monsters/threats in attempts to re-create "controllable" (re: mindlessly obedient) versions of Hulk and Capt. America, with more bad results than good. They also have had secret cabals or up front efforts to make mutant killing robots and whatnot. The Marvel U.S. government has usually been depicted as corrupt and rotten, sometimes even moreso than the real one.

So with that in mind, the concept of the CSA having nannite controlled freaks and psychos as stormtroopers is hardly unfounded. The shocking part came when Iron Man embraced them to go after his own friends, and so few of his allies objected. But that's water under the bridge at this point.

Thor's objecting pretty hard this Wednesday. :)

That should be fun. It should be telling to Marvel's editorial dept. that they seem to be getting a lot of anticipation and positive buzz for stories that promise to deliver a beating on Iron Man post CW. That may tell them that their method of "damage control" from overplaying the Pro-SHRA's nastiness with, "oh, just pretend it didn't happen and have Stark act somewhat more lenient and reasonable" may not fly. If this were wrestling, Stark would be the "heel" character right now. The character who fans can't wait to see get beaten down.
