WHY AREN'T THERE ANYMORE 'BIBLICAL' movies being made?

Last I heard, J Michael Straczynski wrote a script about King David, with Akiva Goldsman as one of the producers. He first mentioned it in December of '06 and the script was delivered in mid-January of '07.

Would it be a movie about his whole reign or just him squaring off with Goliath?

Controversy. Hollywood doesnt want controversy, and religions are at the top of the list of what execs dont want to touch on for films nowadays.

The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons are "controversial".

Alister Grierson ("Sanctum") is set to helm the Biblical feature "Mary Mother Of Christ" for Aloe Entertainment, Bright Light Pictures and Motive Entertainment says Deadline
"The Passion of the Christ" scribe Benedict Fitzgerald is co-writing the script with Barbara Nicolosi which has lead to remarks from backers that this could be considered a prequel of sorts. The narrative deals with Mary’s attempt to defy King Herod to save her child.
Casting is already underway with Israeli actress Odeya Rush set to play Mary while Julia Ormond and Peter O’Toole will take supporting roles. Lionsgate will distribute States-side

As a christian myself, I wouldn't mind seeing biblical flicks. I am glad to hear lionsgate is doing a prequel of sorts to passion. I mean, hollywood makes movies about everything else why not biblical stories jeesh. Its crazy in the world today, where is becoming more acceptable to frown upon religion. I mean really?

Four cubits and a span, or about 6 foot 9. Some later translations increased his height though, probably to make it look more impressive.

6'9" is impressive by any standard. Especially when you take into account how short people used to be (5'6" was considered tall).

Im surprised people arent more interested in seeing an epic battle of Armageddon(Jesus Vs. Anti-christ) from the book of Revelations!!! That premise alone will make half a billion dollars!!!

Yeah thats the kind of bible flick I be interested in seeing. That alone should be a trilogy. I mean liek you said Jesus vs. The Anti-Christ in an epic battle for humanity, angels vs. demons......EPIC! Esepcially done 300 style.

Not necessarily. I see a Samson movie as being more of an epic tragedy kind of like how Beowulf was. Could be awesome. Who wouldn't want to see Samson kill a thousand armed Philistines all by himself with only the jawbone of an ass for a weapon?

I sure would love to see a film like that. And Samson was Hercules before Hercules was even created and thought of. So a Samson flick would be good, rated R smashing action film.

The entire bible IS R-rated. PG-13 for any bible story is taking a massive liberty, but you kind of have to. Passion of the Christ was the exception.

^ Why you have to? I mean like you said the whole bible is r rated so why not make r rated bible flicks. R Rated films make money aswell, besides not every film(s) should be toned down by PG-13 standards.
