WHY AREN'T THERE ANYMORE 'BIBLICAL' movies being made?

Over the years there have been re-makes upon re-makes of old movies; except for the biblical ones (Jesus flicks excluded). I'm really surprised there has never been a re-make of The Ten Commandments or such...then there are other great stories in the Bible that would make great movies:

Samson
The Book of Job
King David
The Walls of Jerico

.............to name but a few.

Is Hollywood scared to touch these stories? There's definitely a market for it. The Passion of The Christ proved that.

Your thoughts.....

because most people don't care. Or go to the movies for good stories.

Religion is a polarizing subject for people, as has been pointed out before.

I was just thinking, they did the nativity story. It wasnt a huge movie, but it was still done without backlash.

Unlike the Passion the Nativity Story does not carry any inherent racism. It kind of is the frosted flakes of religious stories.

I heard there remaking Moses again. But most part bible movies at best were depressing and made during a time when they were the epic films. Today its a new kind of Epic that bible movies just don't effect. Bible stories might be consider more of a period piece now.

King David could be an awesome movie, especially if they took a page or two from 300. It's got everything: action, adventure, rooting for the underdog, sex, politics, giants, the whole package. It could be huge.

Also, I'd like to see a movie about Noah. There was also something I liked about the idea of depicting Noah as a healthy man in his prime rather than being an old fart with a huge white beard, and really if he was doing heavy construction work for a hundred years I think he'd have to be pretty physically fit. Perhaps we'd start to see him age over the course of the ark's construction. I'd also be quite interested in seeing how they depict the antediluvian world-- perhaps they could even hint that Atlantis was the world's capital during Noah's time.

Samson would just be Hercules all over again. David taking on Goliath would be a decent scene. They said he was a giant, but apparently he was like 9 feet tall.

9' is still pretty friggin' big. And given how movies tend to exaggerate stuff, a 9' Goliath would still likely live up to people's expectations of seeing him as an unstoppable colossus. As long as he doesn't look as small as a basketball player or as giant as the Ang Lee Hulk, it shouldn't be hard to find a happy medium between the believable and the fantastic.

Also, I want to see Goliath go brutal prior to us seeing David fight him. They should establish how dangerous he is by showing him actually lay waste to a bunch of soldiers who are unfortunate enough to get in his path during a battle.

All man that could be a masterpiece.....They need to make this film now....Who will play David?....And Goliath?

As for Moses i think the ideal person would be Viggo Mortensen or Christian Bale. For if it was Butler he'd kick the Egyptian guard and say This is Isreal or something.

As for David and Goliath id say The Big Show should be Goliath or the Great Khali.

No piece of physical evidence has been introduced that conclusively proves that the man known as Jesus Christ existed, although there is a fair amount of historical writing that suggests that he did.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

That's nothing new. Most of history is like that. Especially in the time period we are talking about.

I doubt that.:hehe:

Watching the Natvity Story on TNT now, it's actually pretty engaging. Catherine Hardwicke directed this one I forgot.

there are two moses movies in the works, a ten commandment remake, and a separate one.

people are too sensitive, if somethign is changed or makes someone look bad they get pissed and make a big deal about it

Speaking from a person who still believes in his religion, even though I'm not against gays or anything like that, times have changed.
I"m only 20, my friends all being around the same age as me. Not long ago, most of them believed in what I do.

One got into drugs years back and started blaming his parents for forcing church on him.
Two of them decided they didn't believe it anymore, or at least didnt believe in a God, but have their own opinions on life after death.
One of them hates the religion with a passion for no major reason, burning the book and discouraging anyone who still believes in it, besides me sicne we've been friends a long time. He too has opinions on life after death.
One is like the one above, except much less vehement about his dislike.
One is undecided on his stance on religion.
And then me, whom still has my beliefs but have my ownw ay of thinking too.

Basically view sof religions have changed in our world today. Even in the days the original Ten Commandments film and such, religion managed to find it's way into many lives. but the past 20 or so years have been a much more scientific enlightening, drawing many away from what they once decided was divine intervention.

I think there's some pretty cool material in the old testament. Just imagine this on film

Judges 3:16-23 said:
The Israelites sent Ehud to deliver their tribute money to King Eglon of Moab. So Ehud made a double-edged dagger that was about a foot long, and he strapped it to his right thigh, keeping it hidden under his clothing. He brought the tribute money to Eglon, who was very fat. After delivering the payment, Ehud started home with those who had helped carry the tribute. But when Ehud reached the stone idols near Gilgal, he turned back. He came to Eglon and said, “I have a secret message for you.”
So the king commanded his servants, “Be quiet!” and he sent them all out of the room.
Ehud walked over to Eglon, who was sitting alone in a cool upstairs room. And Ehud said, “I have a message from God for you!” As King Eglon rose from his seat, Ehud reached with his left hand, pulled out the dagger strapped to his right thigh, and plunged it into the king’s belly. The dagger went so deep that the handle disappeared beneath the king’s fat. So Ehud did not pull out the dagger, and the king’s bowels emptied. Then Ehud closed and locked the doors of the room and escaped

That's like a Biblical version of Assassin's Creed

There are actually some pretty bad-ass parts in the Bible

Samson would just be Hercules all over again.

Not necessarily. I see a Samson movie as being more of an epic tragedy kind of like how Beowulf was. Could be awesome. Who wouldn't want to see Samson kill a thousand armed Philistines all by himself with only the jawbone of an ass for a weapon?

Wow, Dont tease me bro. That would be so awesome. Why dont they do this???

because the Church would pitch a fit having Hollywood 'desecrate' the Bible and it would be a tornado of bad publicity

I always wanted hollywood to take a serious take on the Book Revelations! it would be epic!

Samson- That might work, IF done right :cwink:
The Book of Job- Never heard of it.
King David- Again, might work if done right.
The Walls of Jerico- Nah, I've heard the story. Not enough excitement unless Michael Bay directs it, lol.:woot:

There's one other Bible story you didn't mention: David and Goliath. I know we've have VERY similar stories LIKE that over the course of the history of film, but maybe someone could do a new take on it? I'd like to see a more interesting backstory to Goliath, maybe flesh the character out a little and give him a MOTIVATION for his actions. What do you guys think?

The walls of Jericho couldn't be the whole movie, but perhaps as a part of the movie about the conquest of Canaan.
