I have lately been sitting around around wondering why my Generation isn't doing anything about what is going on in the world right now? I mean people between the ages 20-30 have a great opportunity.

A chance to start a whole hippie uprising for this Gen. Why aren't we doing it!? I mean the whole world is going to hell in a hand basket, & we are just sitting around complaining about it. Instead of going out there & doing something why?

I have personally been giving some thought to running for Mayor of my town. I know that it isn't much, but at least it is something

maybe you're not doing sometihng about it but I am. Im rising up against these islamo fascists! we're not gonna take your terrorism anymore!

There are plenty of protests and rallies for our age group.
Do a little reasearch and get involved.
Here is a well funded site that might give you some ideas.
Not In Our Name

Are you kidding me? In Westwood there are protests going on everyday, sometimes multiple protests on different parts of campus.

Aeh, that site seems too anti-millitary for me.

I have to focus on school right now but I do belong to a college democrats group and have helped out several campaigns. Granted, most are local races. I've been to protests too. I'm a journalism major and when I graduate I hope I can help to make a difference with my writing in some way. I'd like to join the Peace Corps but who knows if I'll have the time and money to do that.

I see you're using the new term the Bush administration came up with.

I have a friend at KU, where I study, who started an activist group called FIGHT (Fighting Ignorance and Global Humanitarian Threats) which focuses alot on the conflict on the Darfur region. In less than a year, the group has had new chapters started in several other schools, including at least one in England, and is going to be profiled by MTV sometime in the near future ("60 Minutes" wanted to do a thing, but couldn't schedule it at a time that didn't conflict with finals last semester).

There is a huge difference between anti-war and anti-millitary.

I support our troops, I want to bring them home.

Same here but some of the stuff there seems to be a little anti-millitary, Iraq veterean kicked out of Kent State? That's not cool.

i honestly don't care.

Yeah, I was just recently watching a seminar on this.

Apparently, most of the younger generation (specifically in America; nations as close as Canada show much more positive trends) are tending towards political disinterest and destructive beliefs and interests. Which is interesting because the older generations in America are in the "traditional values" segment of the idealogy. A generation gap, but one that seems much more specific to America at the moment.

Yes, alot of the youth today have a "let someone else take care of it attitude."

It's just pathetic.

Or a "it doesnt matter how I vote" attitude.
The recent elections didnt exactly do anything to help that mindset.

wheres that article?

There are many organizations within campus and High Schools that many students can sign up and take part it in. Such as UNICEF, awareness for aids, and helping the homeless etc...

I mean its out there its just a matter of taking the time to look.

Yeah I know. ****ing Ohio cost us. ****ing Florida too.

Come to think of it, my School doesn't have any political oriented clubs. I was looking for a young Democrats club but could not find it.

Do high schools actually have political clubs?

Just ask your teacher and say you want a to start a new club, and most likely they'll agree. My school did not have a Model U.N. club until a year ago until one of my classmates asked her teacher if she would be the sponsor and she said yes.

I can imagine that some are protesting, but nothing is getting done.People need to do more drastic things to end this useless war,im not saying this for me.But for all you Americans,do you want to inherit a country that has a country wide budget gap?A deflated ego,and the world hates you?

Yes, usually they have a young republicans club and a young democrats club.

Yeah, but be sure to pick a teacher who you know shares your political beliefs.

Otherwise... awkward.

Mine did. And I would have joined the young democrats but I hated the teacher who was the advisor.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Some teachers are right wing jack asses.

Ah. I'm not in America, so I wouldn't know. I find that interesting, since, as I mentioned earlier, America is trending towards political apathy in youth, while Canada is in the "interested and progressive" category among youth, and yet I've never seen political clubs in our schools.

Surprisingly, I've never run into one. My english teacher discusses 9/11 conspiracy theories with us and talks about what a quagmire the Iraq war is, and my history teacher once brought in several American draftdodgers to talk to us. Even my civics teacher described Pierre Trudeau as "a political hero".
