Definately. They have population control in China, and I really believe in it. The population is simply getting too big, and it won't be long before there are no more forests, or Countryside at all, it'll just be houses. I don't want to see that.

there was no sarcasm in that. i honestly think that that idea would work.

and while i kind of disagree that women with (so many) abortions should be restricted from having more, or forced to have the kid, i do agree that there needs to be some kind of restriction. some kind of rules or regulations.

exactly... the problem is exponential. it's simple, but nobody seems to get it. the more kids people have, the more kids they'll have, and the more kids they'll have, and the more kids they'll have, etc, etc...

that's how china is in the state it's in now. and we're heading there now. with the average life span growing longer and longer, and people having more and more kids, we're just going to be more and more over populated. we need some kind of regulation on it.

okay, i know that's a loaded question, and i'd be lying if i said i had all the answers... but, people are liscenced for all kinds of "important" things everyday, and having a kid is arguably the most important thing one can do with his or her life... any two redneck, backwoods (for example) people can have a kid, and raise it to be a racist, or terrorist, or whatever.... when people are liscenced to be things like drivers, or carriers of weapons, or sexual predators, why aren't they liscenced to be the most important thing in the world?

i get that it's every person's right to have a kid, and pass on their own DNA, and that that's just a natural part of life, but that doesn't make it okay...

i guess we didn't watch the same movie... beause what you just said has almost nothing to do with GATTACA.

yes, it downplays having an 'inferior' kid, but it says nothing at all about whether or not it's okay to have one.

and, besides the movie, but more on my own opinion, why shouldn't "flawed" people not be able to have children? you have two people, both with histories of drug abuse, criminal records, psychological problems, and whatever other things that an be passed on either from "nature" versus "nurture", and tell me those two people should be able to have a kid...

it just isn't right. i don't care if it is "god's" given right... god is an unproven entity, and to put so much faith in something like that is just wreckless.

if anything, GATTACA proves why it is okay to have "undesirable" children... ethan hawke's character proved that you can do whatever you want, regardless of your genetic makeup. so, your example is worthless.

But in the movie it was illegal for Ethan Hawke's character to have kids with a superior.

yeah. i'm not saying that if they get pregnant they should be made to keep the kid, they should just be told "hey, last chance, now you get the snip!"

Not all criminals are evil. What about protesters locked up for civil disobedience? Political prisoners?

you're opening a very big an of worms that has nothing to do with what we're disussing. whether or not people are guilty of whatever crimes they may or may not have commited has nothing to do with what we're discussing.

but, you're right: not all criminals are evil, but rapists, murderers, child molesters, and the like, should not be able to have kids... shoplifter and traffic light runners, i think, are okay.
