Why Can't DC Get it right?

DC will release THREE movies in 2010...that is nothing to ignore.

Was Jonah Hex a bomb and a complete mess? Sure. However, The Losers was pretty darn good, and RED seems to be pretty good, and has a great cast.

Yeah, 2011 marvel is releasing more movies...but in 2010 DC will.

I liked 'The Losers' thought it was a solid action movie and 'RED' does look pretty awesome

I Liked the action and the light humor in "The Losers" too. Saw it on Zune (through X-Box Live) this week.

But DC didn't oversaturate themselves, did they?
None of the three DC films in 2010 are superhero films, so they're not relevant to the topic of saturating the market with superhero films.

Of course. But if DC want to release 3 superhero movies (let's pick B listers say Hawkman, Aquaman, Green Arrow) in one year, that's quite fine to me. Actually those 3 movies or any superhero genre will most likely be watched by me. Unlike the 3 movies DC released this year, none I have interest to watch them (well I want to watch Hex, but very early reviews whispered "get the DVD instead").

both DC and Marvel want to put out films that the audience en masse (the fandom is a small part of that equation) want to see....99.9 percent of people don't even know who Green Lantern is...and you want a Hawkman movie....enjoy that with the 10 other people in the theater opening day

Just like you said, Hawkman is just another movie that depends upon good storyline & good directorship to sell itself to the public. By that it should have the same chance of success of "unknown to the public" title like Avatar, Inception or the 1st Iron Man. Comic stardom should have only a tiny influence on the movie success.

most of the fandom doesn't take Hawkman seriously and you expect the general audience too....thats the difference between your examples and Hawkman

see this is another problem I have...not every character is deserving of a film

It's fine to me, too, but they'd be a lot better off spacing them out through the year than releasing all three in the summer.

Personally I can see Hawkman having his own film but the problem with Hawkman is that his history incredibly confusing since there were (or did they retcon Zero Hour?) 3 different "Hawkmen" running around as Hawkman. No one takes him seriously because of that. The GA doesn't have to deal with that, but its going to be a pain for the a writer to look up Hawkman and try to figure out which Hawkman history would be best.

Honestly, I'm not feeling to good about Cap's chances next summer. Thor comes out in May and has no competition...but it seems GL, Cap, and the X-men are way to close. I wish GL was released during the holidays as planned. Despite what people say I really don't think Cap is a summer tentpole movie. I can honestly see that movie doing TIH type numbers. It would probably do better if released at a different time of the year. Why am I bringing that up in this thread? Because if a Cap movie bombs, then it doesn't bode to well for the genre. As stated before, if GL bombs, it will hurt DC's chances for other heroes to have films but if both Cap and GL bomb................that's not a good thought.

I actually think Cap stands its best chance during the summer, especially the 4th of July weekend. I'd release Thor during the winter.

^ I agree with Thor, fantasy films do much better in the December period, second Narnia film was moved from December to May and it crashed big time.

DC is doing okay. One good movie per year.

WB doesn't need to worry about that. As long as they have any film that's a blockbuster - like Harry Potter - it will make up for whatever else bombs.

Put Hawkman on Earth and no… it will suck.
Do a Sci-Fi movie like Hawkworld and is has awesome potential.

Sarcasm is a great tool for those too lazy to actually read the story, thus avoiding the proposed idea and reinforcing a preconceived character limitation.

And yes… I called you lazy. :whatever:

maybe...but I can easily name 10 DC characters who are infinitely more interesting and who I would sooner see get a movie before Hawkman

Hawkman is just continuity mess. Plus, his only real general audience exposure was that series of commercials where he was basically ******ed. I forget the product that was advertised...

Just out of curiousity, who would be the 10 you would rather see. I can name only 8 for me that includes films that haven't been made into movies, haven't been released, or won't be spinoffs though.

Green Lantern
Wonder Woman
Flash
Green Arrow
Teen Titans
New Gods
Spectre
Aquaman

The Question - I think you could do a really great detective/conspiracy film
Zatanna
Green Arrow
Booster Gold - could be a great comedy/action film
The Flash
Young Justice
Wonder Woman
Lobo - I know its in development, but I dont think its going to get made
The BlackHawks - awesome WW2 movie
Sgt. Rock
