Why Can't DC Get it right?

You can get the 3 issue mini series for $4.00 to $12.00 NM on e-bay just about any day of the week.
Ah, I see. I didn't check Ebay, just Amazon's third-party sellers. Thankfully I still have the trade paperback from when it was released. :yay:

I hear ya. I almost forgot about e-bay entirely until I had this urge to buy copies of Richard Corben’s Den and Neverwhere. I was having a heck of a time finding them at a price I was willing to pay until I gave e-bay a shot. Glad I did. I saved a ton. :woot:

As a DC fan, I just don't get the urgency for WB to make DC films right now. Maybe they are and we don't' know it but late last year, the new CEO said there would be film announcements at a press event for DC 75th Anniversary and that never happened.

For example, I hope once Green Lantern gets it first rough cut and if WB loves it, then they'll greenlight Flash or Wonder Woman so they can be actively fast tracked for a release. But don't wait for the release of Green Lantern in June and see how it fares with the BO. that would be a big mistake.

Because some fans dont actually think about the situation at hand, and they dont want to think about how it really is. They just want an excuse to whine about something. They just sit there going "Hey! Wheres my Wonder woman movie?!?" Without taking into consideration that theyve been trying to make one for years, with each script not being right to shoot. They dont take into consideration that the biggest name who took on the project, joss whedon, didnt really understand wonder woman. They dont take into consideration that even the comics cant even market the character properly anymore. Theres a reason why GL is getting a movie after Geoff Johns made him the third biggest franchise in DC.

WB is doing the smart thing, developing things from behind the scenes until they're ready to show them.

I do. They're going to want a new franchise to make money now that Harry Potter's winding down and Batman's still a while away. I think they'll wait to see how GL does. They might want to make that into a franchise too.

I think I didn't make it clear because I was a little tired but I can see how it's being misinterpret. My mistake:

I meant: "I'm NOT getting the urgency that WB needs to compete against Marvel".

Meaning, that I know that WB is prioritizing the DC films but they're at a snail's pace.

Well as a company, I would think DC is not happy seeing Marvel getting all these accolades and mainstream success with its movies like X-Men, Spider-man, Ironman, Hulk etc etc. If I were Warner i'd be pretty pissed that we as a company are not tapping into that movie money the same way marvel is. Warner owns three of the biggest superhero names: Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, if i were them i'd want to exploit that to show that Marvel isn't the only one who could make big superhero movies while also bringing our characters more into the mainstream like Marvel's done for Ironman.

Thats just from a perspective of a Warner executive i would think. I'm glad DC is taking its time, but its surprising that Warner has been letting Marvel own the past decade with its movies while DC has a powerful arsenal of characters to use as well. If i were an executive at Warner, why wouldnt i want to tap into that box office success?

Agreed on all counts. The thing is, I worry the genre will pass(eventually it will)before I get a Green Arrow film.

im a marvel and dc fan. marvel's success is good for dc and vice versa. if the gl lantern is a success then marvel might try to get their cosmic characters going. or even get back the silver surfer. if the avengers is good and hawkeye is done well you might get your green arrow. if the iron man and the tdk didnt hit so hard then the genre might have gotten stale and really people might have turned on it. with the tons of crappy superhero movies, the good ones keep the market alive and give opportunity to unknown characters. so be happy and hope marvel and dc both have hits next year.

Well, you can't get the artwork for any AC/DC album directly off of iTunes because they don't have any AC/DC music available on the store, and you can only import album covers on iTunes from albums that they have available in the integrated iTunes Store.

However, you can easily browse Google (images) for the album artwork and simply copy and paste it into iTunes. You can do this by either click on the song in question and pasting the album art in the blank box in the bottom left hand corner of iTunes, OR you can right click the song, click the artwork tab, and paste it there.

See, this is the kind of advice DC and Warner Bros. needs to consider.

Because unlike Marvel WB isn't under the illusion that they are guaranteed to make money, they've learned this the hard way. WB are plodding along at their own pace with comic adaptations, Marvel seem to be in some sort of rush for some inexplicable reason. WB has got the biggest comic franchise under their wing at the moment, it's raked in more money than they could have dreamed of and rewarded with several major award wins and nominations, if anyone at head office isn't happy with that there's no pleasing them. Superhero's aren't everything to WB, they've probably got a bunch of potential franchises up their sleeve, add to that the success of Inception may be a new factor to consider for WB, suddenly originality isn't looking so risky after all, in fact I willing to bet WB may be the studio that starts making more original blockbusters. I really don't think WB gives a damn about Marvel and what they're doing in regards to superheroes, in fact I believe some fans are trying to fan the flames for a war that doesn't even exist.

The genre will never pass. Comic book films are fantasy films, and the audience will always see fantasy films.

I wouldn't say that WB doesn't care about Marvel is doing with their superheroes, just only that it's not a pressing concern. They have more than one film division under their umbrella. As you said, they have Inception. Along with that WB has produced the Sherlock Holmes movie, which is getting a sequel and developing into a franchise itself.

Which to me is exactly the same as not caring. If they did give a rats arse I'm betting we would have seen a slate of superhero flicks rushed into production similar to what Marvel did.

the actors are getting old, you have to push to the avengers if you want a sequel. the cast will either not want to stay on for that many pictures because they might be passing on some really interesting projects. or they are just getting too old.

Thats a very good point. By the time the 2nd Avengers movie is out, Robert Downey Jr. will be 50 years old. And Sam Jackson is pretty damn old already. From that perspective i can certainly understand a little urgency to make these films.

In regards to Warner tho, it will be very interesting to see what happens with Green Lantern. I think DC's movie future lies entirely upon that film. If it does well, i think we can expect Flash and Wonder Woman announcements not too long afterwards. If not....well we're in for another decade of development hell for the DC properties. Even though this will probably never happen, I would love it if a Justice League and an Avengers movie were to both be released during the same year. That would be like the ultimate marvel vs. DC battle.

Maybe they want to get it out before world ends in December of 2012. I kid!

I think Marvel wants to get these movies out for two reasons. They want to get these out before the GA gets tired of superhero films and before these actors are tired of playing these roles.

Now I don't think any of these films other than Iron Man 2 are being rushed. The Avengers have been in development since before Iron Man 1 I believe. I think the other two films have also been in development since 2008. I don't think its being rushed.

Agreed.

WB does care. Thats why they formed DC entertainment. Its not as big a priority because Marvel only makes superhero films and WB has plenty of options.

Any movie studio who puts out release dates before they have scripts down is playing with fire. The films should be organic in their creation, otherwise you're forcing things to happen.

Marvel got a little too excited with Ironman 1's success. After the opening weekend Marvel was like " OK! NOW THAT WE GOT SOME MONEY, WE'VE GOT THOR, CAP, IRONMAN 2 AND AVENGERS FOR Y'ALL!"

I mean dont get me wrong, its a very very exciting time to be a comic book fan, i never thought we'd see an Avengers film. I think if DC entertainment/Warner got its act together, a JL movie could be monumental and give marvel a run for its money.

I agree that they're playing with fire a bit, but I believe it is organic and that Marvel films so far felt organic. Some people will disagree with me about Iron Man 2, but it did feel like I was witnessing the beginnings of the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the first 3 films and Iron Man 2 was a natural progression of not only Iron Man but the MCU too. With that said I still think they could've done a better job with Iron Man 2, but it was still fine to me. I had fun watching it.

I don't believe that anyone's way is the best, but I'm just glad that WB/DC's finally trying to get more superhero solo films released.

I'm of the opinion that a cinematic universe if unsustainable in the long run. All this trying to interconnect things and set ups for future films will ultimately effect the film at hand, it's already started to show through in IM2. That film was borderline pointless.

That makes no sense. They are a comic book company so superheroes are their primary means of revenue. And they are building up to something so I don't know how that reeks of desperation. IM, Thor and Cap are 3 different types of film: one military, one sci-fi and cosmic to a degree and one that is a combo of both military and sci-fi. The chemistry between them will be interesting. I don't see how that is carried away. Now an Antman solo film..........that maybe getting a little carried away, unless it's O'grady, then I can see that being a comedy and a little different from superhero films.

I will agree that The Avengers tie in/continuity hurt IM2 alot. But I'm wondering what you mean that the film was "borderline pointless"?
I'm confident that Green Lantern will do well
My money is def. on GL to be the big superhero film that summer
