The Amazing Spider-Man 2 why do people consider andrew garfield's peter parker a jerk?

All versions of the character involve him getting a swelled head and selfish attitude. Then Uncle Ben dies as a result of that attitude and he learns with great power, comes great responsibility, yadda, yadda, yadda.

The problem with ASM Peter is that he never learns that. They got the first part right and forgot the part where he learns the error of his ways. He never evolves as a character and just keeps the same selfish attitude and making the same mistakes as the pre-Ben's death Peter. So he comes off as unlikable.

Not unlikable but underdeveloped

I really don't get why giving the bully and the car thief a hard time was considered jerk behavior. They're a bully and a car thief. I guess that when a character is that confident he comes off as abrasive, makes people uncomfortable? I dunno.

But the way he behaves with Aunt May... now that's being a jerk. He just got her husband killed, the last thing Peter Parker would/should do is add to his aunt's worries. And the movie treats his plight at that moment as a search for revenge rather than a search for atonement.... which is what the Spider-Man character is all friggin about. So I'm with them there.

Eh, I get where you're coming from here, with Ben out looking for Peter, but there's a good chance Ben wouldn't have gotten shot if he hadn't tried to wrestle the gun away from the guy. It's his fault Ben was out there in the first place, but some blame has to lie with Ben himself for doing what he did.

The car theif was understandable because of how he treat him but u really don't get the bully thing since peter just wanted to mess around with flash. He never broke his bones nor hang him upside down.

He never treated his aunt like crap. He seemed alright with his aunt. He never insulted her nor ignored her tasks nor even yelled at her multiple times.

Sure, but Peter can't really get caught up with that when he knows he did diddly to stop the killer when he had the chance. That's the main pillar of the Spidey character in my opinion: guilt. This Peter doesn't show it much, not when he's essentially telling his aunt to buzz off when she's begging him to be safe. He doesn't care that she's worried, or that a dead or seriously injured nephew is the last thing in the world she needs right now. He just cares about himself, about his thirst for revenge. That's super questionable behavior.

Toby Punched his girlfriend under the influence of an alien substance he chose to put back on his body?

Both Peter's are dick's sometimes, cause they're both human.

Fatality.

1) Peter's mind was being affected by the Symbiote at that point.

2) It was an accident. He was in a fight, she came up from behind him, and he hit her without really looking.

3) He immediately realized that things had gone too far and that the Symbiote was affecting him and that he had to get rid of it.

Not the same thing at all.

He didn't had any responsibility :whatever: he didn't also screwed with his friend face.

I literally made a thread about Garfield and Maguire in Spidey world.

He is disrespectful to Aunt May, Captain Stacy, and he is too broody. Sitting in class with his hod up hunched over his desk. That's not Peter Parker. He seems more interested in the parents he barely knew than his Uncle's memory.

He is an unlikable character.

More interested in his Parents? Did you see "your my boy?"

Nope, I don't think he's a jerk. Neither in ASM, nor ASM2.

He's... A kid. No one's perfect.

Some of you people who complain about Peter in these series should take a look at yourselves. Don't act like you've never gotten in a fight with your parents, for God's sake.

You could argue that he was a dick to Aunt May in SM2 by letting her believe that she was the one to blame for his death.

The only thing I found dickish was the best kind line. Other that that his Spidey is a dick to villains as he should be.

Oh and he also broke a promise to a dead man.

A promise he was kind of forced to make. George was dying and wanted to make sure Gwen wouldn't date peter (the exact opposite of the comics, but Webb & Co. don't care about comic book accuracy), so Peter took it. Both Gwen and Peter decided to stay together despite the risks, so I can't really blame them for that. However, his comment "those [broken promises] are the best kind" was just insensitive.

Agreed. I actually liked what Peter did to Flash. Flash totally deserved it after he beat up Peter. In fact, Uncle Ben scolding Peter for doing that made him seem like a jerk instead of Peter.

I'm not friggin Spider-man, I don't need to apply myself to this.

I think Peter is pretty unlikeable in ASM, to be fair.

What would have made for a really interesting scene is if the car jacker HAD the star tattoo, seeing as Peter doesn't make the nose holes until he has checked to make sure the tattoo was wasnt there. 'This could have got a worse', would have been 'REALLY' interesting to see that scene play out if the jacker has that tattoo.

We're talking about Peter, not Spider-Man.

Peter is just like us. Hell, if you're actually a Spidey fan I shouldn't even need to say anything more.

Edit: typo. :)
