Is it cuz of the Maximum Carnage arc? I know Bendis and Joe Q hate him as they've said and showed in New Avengers. I dunno I think he's pretty cool.

One reason I think is the over-exposure that the symbiotes got in the 90s period. Whether that'd directed at both Carnage and Venom, or just Venom I'm not sure. I enjoy Carnage as a villian, myself.

It was definately disappointing how Bendis and JQ just killed him for the sole purpose of hating him. I would've suggested just putting him on the shelf if they hated him so much. What's done is done, I'm afraid.

Never ever liked the character, he always annoyed me, and made Venom one of the best rouges ever, look like a puss

yeah Carnage sucks. OOOh i'm insane, oooh i have power, lets go kill!! dumb. dumb. dumb.

I hated the Maximum Carnage "fiasco" almost as much as the Clone one.

Carnage is cool. Psycophaths are always fun.

Right, Charles?

Charles agrees.

WTF is other? Do you hate Carnage? It's a very simple yes or no answer. I never understood why people felt obliged to put "other" in every single ****ing poll.

lol.

Anyway, I don't hate him. He was one of the very first badguys I started te read about in Spidey comics. Loved his design and personality. Is he one dimensional? Yea of coarse. But he's still a fun character. The character is long gone though now.

At the end of the day though, he's still one of my favorite Spidey villains ever.

I love Carnage myself. He's a truly vile villain. He may not be the most in depth villain that Spidey's ever faced, but there was an exploration into his childhood I'm sure.Wasn't he in an orphanage, and I believe he was mistreated too.

Kasady is a product of his childhood, like most serial killers.

Agreed.

I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to say that he has more depth then GG or Doc Ock or those top tier villains but he was never meant to have that anyway. He's a fun character.

His origin arc was freaking amazing.

Perhaps if he was given the depth of a Charles Manson I'd like him. But he's written like a b-movie, cartoon slasher. My other problem is that Spidey in dealing with him always has the most ridiculous kid glove reaction, whereas he should take a hard-edged approach. Meaning he should be prepared to kill the likes of Carnage. It might not happen, but he should be ready for it.

Carnage sucked because basically the writers had ****ed up Venom to the point that he was a hero...so they basically just brought in Venom 2.0.

As others have said, he's one dimension and his background is HARDLY anything new - we've heard and seen it about a dozen freakin' times.

"I kill...because I can!" Whoo-weee! Thats some writing there! Gaspage!

As a character he's kinda bad. Has he had any character developement at all? Sure he may have had some history that was interesting. But flashbacks don't count as character developement. We see a small flash at his childhood, but then the whole time we've seen him it's been "kill cause I can."

But at the same time, there is enough for possibilities of fun with him. I really don't care that Bendis or Joe killed him. But if they bring him back, make him cool. And don't overuse him.

Only racists hate Carnage. And I'll be damned if I'm going to agree with a nazi.

Bendis didn't kill him.

Marvel killed him after Maximum Carnage with poor writing.

Imo, that should have been his last story. Go out in a huge blaze of glory. It felt epic and let that be it.

I prefer my Manson depthless.

Lack of character development, poor concept to begin with, not really a Spider-Man villian but an attempt to make Spider-Man more like an Image comic, should I go on?

My kind of girl:o

Well, obviously Carnage is my favorite, so I voted no. And the character DOES have depth. Unfortunantly, most of the stories everyone has read with him have been the ones suffering from poor writing of his character. Read Carnage: Mind Bomb, and Carnage: It's a Wonderful Life, then try to explain how he has no character depth.

Carnage has much potential as a character, he could have easily been Spider-Man's Joker, the counter to Peter's "Power and Responsibilty" mantra. Unfortunatley uncreative writers decided not to focus on his character and used him as a plot device instead. Same with Scorpion, Venom and many others, lazy writing and uncreativity are "destroying" these characters. But when they are written WELL, they are great.

I've heard this before and it seems more and more true: There are no bad characters, just bad writers.

A bad writer can make the best concept sink like a lead weight, and a good writer can make a character based on a silly concept be interesting.

He, like Bishop, Cable, and Gambit, is a product of the 90s and hasn't aged well. He was all about being hip, edgy and violent in a very 90s way, and was only missing the guns and the shoulderpads from the whole package.

But I feel that once you get to the 2000s, Carnage loses all meaning. I agree with an earlier poster that Maximum Carnage should have been his swansong and then never have come back. But you know Marvel, can't turn their backs on an easy buck...

Excellent post.

I used to like him. A lot. Then I realized that he had no depth or anything. All he was is a strait killing machine. All he is really though, is a gimick. Cyclops nailed it. He's just a 90's flash character designed to draw more people in. Though I do think he had matured a bit as a character in the Venom Carnage 01 series.
