• Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version.

Why do we bother?

not trying to be clever or existential or philosophical, i just wonder what makes us get up in the mornings and trudge to work even though we would rahter be doing something else? what makes us chase the one person who we know that we probably wont get? What makes us decide what kind of person we want to be?

:super:

We're told to do these things since we're born. That, and alot of it's propably incripted in our DNA

i was no good at school, my job although well paid sucks ass, i have no partner and am currently nowhere near confident enough to talk to the girl of my dreams! i carry on because i know (Hope) one day things will change.

Things dont change for you... I checked :down

But why do you NEED to work at a job you hate just because it's well paying, why do you need to have a partner, why do you need to have a good education?

I hate how in this society, since the day wer'e born we're expected to go to school, graduate, go to college/university, graduate agian, then find a well paying job. Even if it isn't what you love doing just as long as it pays well. Then settle down, buy a house, get married, have some kids, retire, and die.

Of course, it's hard to deviate too much from this formula because it's what are society is most likely built on..

Of course, that's just my half baked opinion. I hope That doesn't sound pretentious or anything.:O

Mental and social stimulation keeps us from seeing things as they really are. Too bad the truth is nothing to run from, people just accept what other people tell them so that's what we do.

Just look at christianity.

I usually fill that void with alchohal and drugs. :doom:

But seriously, that void could be from anything.

Maybe it's love, or maybe you need to find a passion in life.
I don't know..maybe you need "god" in your life. It seems to work for some people.

true! but the feeling of alcahol wears off then you just feel empty until your next drink! Religion is the answer! Jedi hear i come.

There are numerous things that shape our lives. Our authority figures, our friends, siblings, economic condition, various forms of media. However, if you mean what makes us aspire and dream, I would say it's that indefinable part of us. It's the soul.
