First Avenger Why Does Everyone Want a Body-Building Captain America?

Oh My God. I know him.

Hello there Pluto. I'm sure you received my pm about this "Steve Rogers" mystery man. I hope some of the rough chatter here hasn't spooked you away. It's just fans who have their different opinions is all. I really hope you check your private messages Pluto. I have a nice reward for you ready to be put into your paypal account or any other account of yours if you have any information on this "Steve Rogers" mystery man.Thank you for posting here and I look forward to hearing back from you.

I'm going to ignore this.

Saying hateful stuff like this will just make your stay here that much shorter.

Be respectful to your fellow posters.

Thomas Jane in Punisher, Christian Bale in Batman, Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby, Jessica Biel in Blade Trinity, Wesley Snipes in Blade, Ryan Reynolds in Blade Trinity, Brad Pitt in Fight Club, Matthew McConaughey in Reign of Fire.

Not only can these actors get into fantastic shape for their roles but they can back them with great performances. Reynolds and Biel's performances are polarizing, though. They're all better actors then Cena will ever be.

He had his chance in The Marine. He failed.

Very well done Major! I couldn't have said it better myself!! I salute you!!

I totally lost track of this thread. Thanks Major. Really appreicate that. :cwink:

I think Josh Duhamel is the right choice for Captain America.

I always saw it this way: Batman is the best all-around athlete of his universe. If he competed in the Olympics he would likely medal in the decathlon, possibly a gymnastics event or two. He could beat Fedor Emilianenko and could probably earn a pro-rating at the Ironman.
Captain America would set the record for weightlifting, each event in powerlifting, every individual event that makes up the decathlon, the marathon, the 50m free, the 10km free, get perfect tens in gymnastics . . . and probably in the same day.

Cap is may not be super human but he is supremely human for certain.
The actor to play Cap is going to need two things for the job (physically) (1) a good frame and (2) a clear schedule.

(1) Some people are saying, "[Slightly built actor] can just hire a trainer and go nuts to put on muscle." It's not that simple. Ryan Reynolds is bulkier in Blade than in Van Wilder. Why? Because the V-tapered, six-packed, sculpt-armed body he had in Van Wilder was without ever training with weights. He was a swimmer. Shirtless Harrison Ford making women drool in Temple of Doom and Working Girl? Tennis and carpentry. A guy with a narrow shoulder girdle can work out but only so much can be done. I have naturally thin wrists and hips. My shoudlers are a little wider than average. I could double for plenty of superheroes. Cap isn't one of them. In the sense of body morphology, McConaughey/Pitt/O'Hearn could all be believable as Cap. Michael Clarke Duncan, Stanley Tucci or Jay Cutler would not. All six have great physiques. Even if they were at the same scale though, their proprotions are very different. The reason why some of the body obsessors (including myself to a point) have mentioned Mike O'Hearn (as the look, not the talent) is because his proportions are similar to the comic drawings of Cap. It is just on the cusp of believablity that the guy can move. Outside of freaks like Brock Lesnar and Warren Sapp, most guys blockier or thicker than Mike (mostly bodybuilders) can't accelerate and cut like Cap's actor should.

(2) The guy they choose is going to have to be dedicated like a Gregorian monk. I don't know what kind of program Gyllenhall is on, but I did the one that Thomas Jane used for the Punisher (same one Brad Pitt used for Troy) for four months and I was in good shape beforehand. My body couldn't take anymore at that point. HGH may help the actor if he has to continue. Properly administered, the biggest risk is body dysmorphia. I'll never look as good as I did when I did that regimen and if I had been on HGH or the juice, I'd never have stopped. It's grueling and if you add a shooting schedule to it, you'll have nothing resembling a life. Your kids will need to be shown a photo of you each day so they won't forget you. The only times the guy won't be in motion are dialogue, meals, sleep and defecation. I was logging in over six hours of structured workout time a day. Yoga. Weights. Running. Boxing. Callesthenics. Judo. Inbetween, I cleaned the gym, ate roughly 4000 calories, kept and planned out my log and trained my clients.

The actor that plays Cap is going to be like the winner of the 2008 presidential election. He's gonna work his @$$ off get the toughest job in the world and hear the worst $#!+ over it. Good luck, poor bastard.

Captain needs to be nimble, the bodybuilding physique usually doesn't lend itself well to the type of acrobatics Captain America is involved in.

Yeah, I would rather have someone who looks like they could turn around without pulling a muscle...or atleast be able to reach back and wipe their own a$$.

I literally can't stand this thread but I keep coming back to see people's ridiculous posts on why "Big Bob Nobody" should be Captain America. People, Cinema is different than comic books exaggeration of how strong people should look. Any Marvel comic has their characters, outside of Blob, looking like the strongest and sexiest physique possible. Well that's not real! So let's make it realistic.

We do have athletes today who have big physiques and are still limber. Yes, there are cheats who do take performance enhancers, that negative aspect should not have to reflect on Captain America.

Guys like bodybuilder Steve Reeves could do different activities with all that muscle and he believed in all natural. It wasn't anything to be ashamed about. It's today's cheats who should be ashamed.

A lot of documentation and rumors pretty much confirm Steve Reeves juiced a little bit. If they are a bodybuilder, and they competed, at any time when that sport was considered Bodybuilding they juiced...they all juiced...every.last.one. Sergio went on record to say Reeves took steroids, and he dealt them to Larry Scott and Kurt Marnul...most dealers take. Also his one quote about steroids "I didn't take them, they didn't exist back then" is inaccurate because they absolutely did exist.

Well, that has to be one of the most frightening things I've seen in quite some time.

Guy must have been juicing up since birth...

That's not real. That is photoshopped to make him look about 40 percent bigger.

This is real.

Captain America Real

Ugh, if he's ever Captain America, I'm gonna hurl.

Yes it is. There are guys out there that are really that big....hell look at this years Olympia winners. Is it seriously an insult to you that Ben Metzger isn't the biggest guy out there, hell...he finished tenth in a TEEN division when he competed, that should give you an idea.

in defense of the body-builders-for-cap movement, the SSS is really just a glorified steroid. Cap could look like a juicer and it would be believable.

Not saying I'm advocating that.

In Ultimates 2 it's mentioned that anabolic steroids are part of the Super Soldier Treatment (Serum).

I was reading a couple of pages in this thread and all I have to say is:

WHAT THE HELL!?!?!....seriously what the hell are those things!!!

That looks gross, they look deformed. I'd rather have a skinny Captain America than a beefcake that has steroids for breakfast :o

I was a personal trainer for a few years and I've been to the IFBB Pro Show at the Night Of Champions here in NYC.

The last guy in that pic with the freaky sick (yuck) looking arms uses (pump and pose) to pump up his muscles. It's a gluelike substance that some people inject into their muscles to make them appear far bigger.

And I love big Ronnie. "Light weight babyyy!" Ronnie is alot bigger than Ben but Ronnie is on GH and the like. Big Ben in clean and still looks perfect and HAWT!

And tenth at the Teenage Nationals ain't bad being clean and that meant at the time he was the tenth best built teen in the nation without steriods like the others took. I researched and they didn't test in that NPC show obviously.:cwink:

Also Ben said his best friend and mentor is Big Mike from Ohio too. I researched and he beat big Ronnie numerous times before he retired from the sport.

Not everyone. Just people with no taste.

all of which seem to claim to professional bodybuilders/personal trainers/amatuer wrestler/etc. Not to say they are all liars, its beyond possible that they are, but I find it really suspicious. (seriously, I am not questioning anyones claim, just observing an interesting phenomenon)

Bottom line: If they can't act, they dont belong on film. Theres already enough hack actors in Hollywood. Especially with the casting route of comic book subgenre being on the up and up lately.

I completely agree! If they can't act give em' da boot! Yet still people shouldn't be stereotyped just for looking muscular or hot like Megan Gale and Ben Ryan.

Everyone laughed at the thought of "The Rock" as an actor at first but he went and proved them wrong. Ben Ryan will do the same. He's not cocky like Dwanye Johnson but he's very confident. Captain America will always come out on top.:cwink:

In a perfect world, proposing wrestlers/body builders would be enough for a ban

:oldrazz:
