Why DOES Spidey lose his powers?

One advantage to being Peter Parker, cute-but-mostly-average-looking young guy, as opposed to Clark Kent, enormous rippling guy who has been an outsider his whole life. Poor Clark can't blend in, so he hides in plain view. Petey, on the other hand, has had a bunch of people see him and they would probably never be able to pick him out of a crowd. They both had good (strong) family backgrounds and similar problems opening up to their favorite girls next door - could be friends :yay:

It dawns that I'm wanting a Superman-Spiderman movie/episode somehow (blast the continuity and different universes!). Here's to Tobey & Tom, or Tobey & Brandon! Kirsten and Kristen/-in are fine; don't want to see Kate for any reason.
It'll NEVER happen. Nor should it.

I thought he already was human.

Anyway the thing about his powers are that they're not mentally based or like the Hulk based on unknown radioactive properties that cause physical and metaphysical powers to emerge. In the movie, he's physically mutated and that's all there is. So to me it was like having superman suddenly become super depressed and that's the only reason his powers are gone.

Prior to the film my only knowledge of spidey losing his powers was in the tas show when he was mutating into manspider and his powers were going wacky because of it.

I immediately thought of that when he lost his web powers. Just because he's really sad and lonely doesn't convince me enough. Can this happen again? Are we to believe if he's sad enough he'll lose his physical mutation?

No way. I like to think that he's mutating into man spider.
He clearly WASN'T mutating. That's just a stretch. There's no evidence to supprt it & it never came to fruition. And while his powers may not be mentally-based, don't discount the mind's power over the body. In the real world, intense mental & emotional stress causes heart attacks, hair loss, strokes, weight fluctuations-it's not that hard to believe that Peter's emotional state could affect his powers.
And aren't you the same person who defends the impossible happening in movies? You can believe that a giant marshmallow man can walk the streets but not that someone's superhuman abilities would just shut down b/c his head was a little messed up? Or better, you find it easier to believe that this was some sign of him turning into a monster despite the complete & total absence of any other symptoms & the doctor giving him a clean bill of health?

Well I simply choose to think he's mutating into manspider, and there's no evidence in the film to prove that he isn't, chris.

I also prefer a spiderman whose powers are not dependent on his emotional state like the hulk. What more can I say?

No evidence? How about the fact that 2 years later it still hasn't happened?
And again, it's not that he's like the Hulk. It's simply a case of mind over matter, like the real world examples I've already stated. This is the superhero equivalent.
